Been with the RAC for quite a few years now . Cover is for two people and two cars . I have constantly had to phone them every renewal to reduce the "quote" to a reasonable increase . This years quote came through £17 a month , an increase of 32% ! Can't be bothered to chase them again so I am cancelling . I looked at GreenFlag , which seems quite good . But a company called GEM Recovery , has very good reviews and is £100 a year cheaper than the RAC . Anyone used them .
This is all for a service you hope you never ever use .

I get breakdown cover from the AA via my Ford service each year.
I know you actually pay for it, its not free, nothing is, but it saves me messing around and I kind of guess the likes of Ford are big enough to hammer them down, price wise.

Only used it once, and as you say @HarryS , hope you dont need it, but then we pay loads each year for stuff we hope we dont need.
Isn't that what insurance should be about?
          With the law abiding anyway.

The same happens with Greenflag - I've been with them for years but every year I take out cover as a new customer on their web site. I once called them to ask why loyal customers are provided with more costly renewals - to be told that they offer lower prices on their web site to attract new customers :spinning:.

They're all at it - car; home; energy.

I'm with LV, breakdown cover including home assist is included in my policy, it cost £67.
Total insurance, with legal expenses and windscreen cover is £514
I've a CRV 2ltr "sport." Whatever that is. I pay annually, they charge a ridiculous interest rate if you pay monthly.

We're insured with Saga (this year) but their special offer of AA cover was £10 more than I'm paying directly with the AA. I get a special deal with the AA for having been with them for well over 55 years :rolleyespink:. My first AA breakdown call was in 1962 :snorky:

We were with LV the last two years but got it quite a bit cheaper with Saga this year. We've covered both cars, fully comp., accidental damage, no claims protection etc. for under £500.

2 litre Focus ST turbo, £409 legal advice, protected no claims, windscreen cover with an excess.
                    More Than.
Was a £100 more for renewal, till I rang them up and told them where to poke it.
But then they make you feel good that you have pushed the price down, truth is they expect you to, so basically you end up paying what they really wanted in the first place.

Whatever happened to honest practice from these rip off merchants.

I still like the system here, recovery comes as part of the insurance deal, which is reasonable here. Six weeks ago t'other half was involved in an accident (T-boned totally the other person's fault), wrecker there promptly plus taxi to transport t'other half home. Car a write off, settlement offer already made but holding out for more.

                        Ah!

                        Good old luncheon vouchers.
We had them when I worked in an office in my teens. A girl of a similar age, was responsible for processing the vouchers issued by our company, which weren't "L.V. Limited" ones, they printed their own. The restaurants had to send in the used vouchers every month attached to their invoice. A couple of the restaurants we used, failed to cancel all the vouchers they sent in. This enterprising young lady, then instead of destroying them with the rest, "recycled" them. I was one of the few beneficiaries.

@roders , had a look at QDOS like the others they seem to come in at £110 for two cars and drivers . Think I'll give GEM a try this year . I shop around every year for house and car insurance, so may as well add recovery to the list . Thank for all the inputs :blue thumb:

Just taken out cover with AVIVA Breakdown , joint membership , recovery , homestart etc £93. That is £114 cheaper than the RAC . Now obviously Aviva do not have a fleet of vans and mechanics. This is covered by an existing breakdown service , guess who ......
