Thanks for the link Gail . I'm not sure what I've got but I think the worms might be bloodworms and one of the insects I saw could be a pond skater. I googled some images too, there's some scary bugs out there

It is early days yet, as you say, but I'm not sure it will fit into the front garden landscape in the way I imagined. I've got it in mind to put a pond in the side garden but it will be much later in the year if I do.

 

@Mike Allen Just take it easy and try and do a little everyday and hopefully as the weather warms up the enthusiasm will return.
Turf the freesias out of the greenhouse, take cuttings of dahlias, tidy up over wintered salvias, repot fuchsias, mulch, turn compost heap and then?

 

Hello Mike, sadly i can relate to this comment but i don't let my chemo med get me down i keep fighting on...beat it mate mentally and you'll enjoy your garden to the best of it's abilities...doing a bit is better than nothing ....just attending my plants and standing back and seeing the achievement gives me great pleasure, then i get the great pleasure of seeing GC members achievements

 

Your welcome mate ...members who have ponds will tell you the same they have to kept on top off but there is some insects about

I watched a video once on bugs in the home and ....yes my jaw nearly dropped out...it's a scary issue

Another gorgeous day here.....forecast is looking pretty good too

Despite it being miserable, damp, cold, dull and windy, I've been outside and given the forsythia a good chop back now it has stopped flowering. Also tied up the jasmine that has gone crazy - it's really wild and I feel like digging it up and starting afresh. I've taken up a bit that had rooted and so hopefully that'll grow well in a pot and then I've got options.

Also split out some mint from a pot I did last year. i STUPIDLY put 3 different types of mint in one pot. So have split it all out and made some extra plants out of it.

Also planted up my trailing heucheras/heucherellas/tiarellas that have recovered nicely after the vine weevil attack.



Cold now so have come in for a cuppa.

 

Snorky you've achieved a fair bit mate to say how the weather is ...i need my thermals to venture in this weather

 

here although the easterly wind made it cooler than yesterday. Put Mr Woo's beautiful Rose into a much larger pot. It's doing very well and has pink flower buds forming . Removed some daffs from a pot and replanted them on larger mound by pond. Patio is sheltered from easterly winds so decided a couple of hours of lying horizontally listening to the birds and being warmed by the sun was what I needed . Later I went round with watering can and liquid seaweed.

I layered it several times over the years to fill the space available. I trim the pavement side with shears every Autumn.
I actually planted two pieces I'd layered in the back garden. This is one of them.



We've never seen another like it. Even the owner of the nursery whose stall on Altrincham market was from where we bought it had no idea of the variety. Such unusual blooms
