I think it's got to be either a squirrel or a pine marten. The feeder is too high and the hook too well closed for any animal than isn't dexterous or tall enough to reach. I don't think an owl could unhook it either. We shall see!

I dint know squirrels came out at night S?, deer can get up high a stag stands very high.

 

Put some sand/loose soil under the feeder and check for prints.

I don't know that squirrels do either Martin. The feeder would have to be turned almost upside down to unhook it which is why I don't think it could be deer, badgers or a fox.

On the other hand it could be my neighbour coming round and swiping the biscuits that it contains for his morning cuppa.

Hi S i didn't know the position of it now rules out all of them apart from deer and PMartin, i would like to bet its a deer, put some sand under the feeder dear prints are very easy to spot, if no prints appear and its moved its something more agile,

Them motion cameras are quite cheap now my be worth investing in one living up there lots of things will turn up

Hmmm, sand is a good idea but I don't have any and I'm not driving seventeen miles for it. No, for now I'll stick to a night vigil and see what turns up.
