Costa Rica - plants and flowers

This one is an eye catcher longk

 

Could be LongK. Thanks for the introduction - that's a plant I have never heard of.


Malvarviscus - the one that never opens properly.


Browalia - flowers start off blue and fade first to pink then white.


Heliconia, at the front. Could be psitticorum, which is the most common cultivated one. Behind, the blue is Stachytarpheta frantzii - Blue Porterweed. And the pink is Stachytarpheta mutabilis - Pink Snakeweed. I don't know why they don't call it Pink Porterweed - its identical to the blue except for the colour.


Aechmea - the Urn Plant.You see them on sale in the UK - an amazing flower.


This was the rooms in another of the hotels. All very American, but they did keep the gardens up very nicely.


? - but interesting.


There was some lovely countryside.


I think this qualifies as a plant . It was a restaurant built round a huge tree.


Jacaranda.

 

I don't know what's in front. But the white stalks (behind) are typical of the pepper family - but who knows which species, as we saw quite a few different ones in the wild.


Hummingbird


I can't remember who he was, but he looks tropical.


A White Nosed Coati. Obviously pretty tame, having been fed by visitors.


A male Hoffman's Woodpecker.


Red Passion flower - I am sure someone can tell us which. Again, in Costa Rica they don't do species.


I am pretty sure this is Aphelandra lutea - a member of the Acanthus family. But I often find that with unusual plants, when you Google them and show the result as images - you get a screen full of pictures of quite different plants.

And finally some butterflies. This was the point when my battery ran out. So that's all.

Curiously, I can't. However don't worry about it. I think its just a quirk of the system.
