Waiting till I can get to B&Q or Homebase :)

After raising the mower one step, and scouring out the roto-barrel I got round the lawn without a hiccup, only now I attached the grass bin. Last year I was lucky, it must have been hot and breezy so the hay blew off the lawn inbetween cuts, but this year it just lay there in the dew, helping to clog up the mower. So it's grass bin from now on. Funnily enough, the grass bin didn't contribute to the grass getting fouled up in the roto-barrel, which I feared. With the addition of a new blade things should get even better. I actually found the Flymo spanner, it was on my late father's garage work bench, looks quite new. The Flymo is ancient, the material round the tubular hand grip is fragmenting and one of the trigger-pulls has snapped off in the past, he must have bought it in the early days. Still going good though ;)

Well a least you know what blade it is and our first flymo was a good one had it for years, the first year we moved here my hubby sharpened the blade with his spinning grinder but after that we just got a new one each year.

You can't go wrong with a mower by keeping it clean after usuage, as the grass can sometimes lodge around the motor part where the sponge is and fetching that off and keeping it clean will also help you.

As long as it's still going strong mate then leave well alone and now finding out what the causes have been, you can now work with the matter.

Our second mower with the collector on the back didn't cut so low on the grass even with the blade low and it was only used about 3 times and my neighbour needed a new one, so I let her have it for £30...she was pleased as she had an hold one with the four wheels. :)

It's just been a dreadful start to the year for the lawn, wet but mild enough for the grass to grow & no way to cut it. The earth is only now drying out after that hot spell. Prior to that it was quicksand held together with grass! :-o When you try to mow it in that condition you just take the turf-grass layer completely off and leave a muddy scar where grass used to be. Still, I appear to be over the worst now, the lawn is settling down :blue thumb:

Does anyone know if you can get replacement orange start/stop levers for the 030 Flymo Pac-a-Mow please? My one lost a lever ~ snapped off ~ years and years ago, so I'm down to one - if that one goes as well ... :-o . Thanks.

Tried both B&Q + Homebase for the blade - neither had them - [HB stocked mower blades but knew nothing about them] - had plenty of others though, all aroud the 15 quid mark - thought they'd be much cheaper at those places. It's one big con after the other these days: warehouse type shopping was meant to slash prices to customers due to non-high street rents, no shop windows, minimal staff, help-yourself/self-service - now they charge the same prices as shops. Cripes, there was the same plastic storage tub in both those stores for 15 quid, I found a similar one in Tesco for 5! So the warehouses are now taking all the profits, employing minimal staff (wages) & passing on no savings to joe public it seems to me. I'll get the blade on-line though, no worries. Moan over! :snorky:

I sharpen my own blades its easy to do, i use a angle grinder but a flat file would do.

Cool, I might see if there's someone local who sharpens stuff - there ought to be, it's pretty rural round here ;)
