As most members know I have 3 lavenders down the back garden and one large one on the front...I trim them regular as I like them in the shape of balls but they're hanging over the pathway now and I want to trim them back off the path but with out losing to much green on the ball shape.

You can trim them back a little further Gail as long as you dont go too deep. It will delay flowering though :)

I've trimmed them back from the bottom before Verdun so that I don't lose the green on the actual ball but it's the sides which are hanging over also? and I know I would lose the green.

Hubby said fetch them out and we'll have some more grasses he's hooked :snorky:

But they look so good Gail......despite loving grasses, its good to have rounded mounded plants amidst them. :)

To think Verdun go back a few years they was only small when he brought them back and I used to let them flower but as they matured and thickened out, that's when I started shaping them.

Gail, but lavendar is essentially a flowering plant.
Lots of plants can be shaped...I do with all sorts of shrubs....but its a shame not to let lavendar flower. My own lavendar.....a "hedge" around veg patch and another as a border edge....are clipped hard/"shaped" as tight, dense flat topped features when not in flower but come alive in summer with those wonderfully scented flowers :)

Verdun the backs I let flower until they got thick as I mentioned and two years back my hubby asked me not to cut the large one on the front garden and to let it flower...Verdun it flowered :wub2:but as it continued to do so...the weight on top was splitting the bush and I managed to cut it back and pushed it back together best I could and it finally went ok.

It's around the edging I need to trim back as they're growing over the pathway :phew:
