can't help think about the window boxes I saw all over the houses and stores in Oregon coastline. realized they put pots in the boxes, not planted in the boxes. guess so if one dies or something easy to replace. they were very colorful, loved them.

Lottie i'm not a grower of plants like I stated :) but I do recommend you taking the advice from members who have replied and know what they're doing on a regular basis...as they show some lovely pictures of their plants on here [IMG]

I THINK they look a little bit less green today, they've grown a lot which they surely wouldn't do if mega unhappy? One last quick Q please, a clip I watched on youtube said to pull flowers of verbena and lobelia in May as it was too early for them to flower, is that correct please? I've managed to get some photos in the tubs will upload via phone

Lottie, it is something I do. By removing flowers and flower buds now you are allowing the plant to build up a stronger root system and framework to produce better flowers for longer in summer.
If they are growing well all should be fine :)

I was feeling so inspired after reading here, I’ve also planted 6 strawberries and ordered a blackberry to kill 875D2EFE-59AA-4908-BF14-4B83DE7EB16E.jpeg 68D6E38C-D614-444C-A64C-0321F4D02FD4.jpeg 20650AF4-3C79-49B2-8A85-1F15A51112B5.jpeg The style of window box is - pick lots of things you like to a comment of “well those are interesting colour combinations” *slightly raised eyebrows* from the cashier, bring home, plant and hope for the best...

Fab thanks so much, how long for? Like when should I stop? In Northern England don't want to miss the window and end up with no flowers as "summer" has gone ;)

Just once is enough. Flowers will soon form again on stronger plants :)

oh shoot hahaha so not continual? Oops - on the clip the woman said "no flowers in May" (quite sternly) so I did what she said... I've also been pinching the tops off all the others as they grow, something to do with stopping them being leggy or something, which sounded undesirable plant wise; but wasn't sure when to stop that either... Shall I just stop everything? LOL

Yes, many plants grow upwards before trailing Lottie.....relax and dont theorise too much. Personally some of the youtube posts are not helpful.
I "pinch" out young plants....remove the tips.....simply to create sturdier, thicker growth. Removing early buds and flowers diverts energy into growth. Do this once or twice and thereafter during the summer deadhead spent flowers. :)
