Seriously tho I do feel for you and Mrs Shiney if you are without help shortly before your big weekend and at a time in the season, when, if you turn your back a 1000 weeds have appeared as if by magic overnight. Having run a minute sale in comparison to what you do I know it's important to have everything as far as possible in shipshape order for ones own comfort and hopefully to minimise the know it all, hypercritical, scathing brigade who probably garden on a postage stamp and read a lot of gardening books!

 

Could be fun working in Shiney's garden.......once participated in a group gardening effort and it was hugely enjoyable

Today the sun is shining and I will be starting the process of removing wallflowers and planting out summer plants . Could be a plant parcel today...always exciting

Not doing much today, as I'm pretty much up to date with the garden, apart from the several clematis I tied up more growth.



So I gave the tea-house (shed) a bit of a clean. There's not a lot of room in there for much more than the jukeboxes, my Budweiser fridge and a couple of chairs and this old TV.




I got the support bracket for the TV in a charity shop about ten years ago for a couple of quid, (they had no idea what it was). Then I had to find some black ash Contiplas, to make a shelf for the Freeview box. Black ash once all the vogue, is now made of "unobtanium," as it was a hell of a job finding some, even back then.There's an old steam mop I use for the vinyl floor.
There's a couple of rechargeable moisture absorbing units on the cut down worktop, which get changed with the two inside the jukeboxes. Those plus a 40w lamp on in each ward off any damp. In the winter I cover them with four thicknesses of dust covers, they don't like damp and low temperatures. Chrome plating can get very pitted if not cared for. Mine's OK. This one will be fifty years-old, next year. I've had it for about ten.




The chairs fit nicely at both ends of the little verandah.



I can open any of the three doors and roll out my Budweiser fridge (an e-Bay purchase) on its stand, the bubble wrap insulation on the doors and windows stays on all year round.



I recycled a couple of old kitchen units. They house spare records and essential jukebox tools, like this set of spinners. Conventional spanners are useless, because of the accessibility.



Half the fun is keeping these jukeboxes going.

When you consider the functions of all this except the speakers, can be crammed into an i-Pod. It really amazes me.

This is my neon Rock-Ola clock I made. Replicants of these are horrendously expensive. I made this from an obviously unwanted Manchester United clock, I bought on e-Bay for £10. The Rock-Ola graphics I got by e-Mail from a fellow enthusiast in California, who patronises the same jukebox message boards as do I. There's about eight double 13amp sockets in this building.



Conversely, in the summer it gets very hot in there, so as well as roof vents and two vents in the bottom of the back wall, I leave the door open during the day if we're at home. If we aren't there's this extractor fan above the doors.

 

Came up to Lincoln to mum's house for 10am. We got straight out in the garden cracking on with it.wow it looks so much better now. Have finished off putting down weed supressant and stones at the front to make it more manageable for mum. Edged all the border and dug it over. Some of the plants are looking great-several heuchera looking v nice.

I brought some penstemon id grown from cuttings and some lady's mantle i had spare. Planted them all in and gave it a good kelching.

Had din dins and then it started spitting so got outside quick and i trimmed the hedge whilst mum cut the grass.

I wish I could say the same about mine.

 

A combination of bad weather, too many other things to do and being away for two days has meant the garden has had free rein to run riot. It has taken advantage. Grass and weeds seem to have exploded into rapid growth, but not the flowers. They still appear to be lagging behind.

Yesterday was spent painting more patio wall and weeding out gravelled bit in front of patio. Fiddled about with back garden new border. Fiddled about with small mound by pond. Large mound I noticed has lots of couch grass sprouting up . I weeded that mound before planting it, thought I'd got it all. One of the Bog Bean plants has a pink flower

Still have awful smell of death in back garden . Think someone died in field maybe. The hen pheasant we had in the garden had a bad leg, she was limping and holding it up. It appeared to get a little better ( we thought maybe a strain injury perhaps ) and then seemed to get worse. Last time I saw her almost two weeks ago she could barely walk but was able to come to me and get food. I was going to try and catch her the next day and take her to my vet. She didn't show for breakfast and no sign of her anywhere in the garden. I wondered if she might be the cause of the smell . I did see her in that field several times.

Could it be Cuckoo Pint, Lords and Ladies, Arum maculatum that you can smell, in common with many other arums these pong.

A lot of weeding, trying to catch up from last year.

 

Raining today, Sunday, May 13th. did cut all the grass yesterday. started some moon flower seeds few weeks ago, 4 so far have risen. away on holiday Monday. asked husband to baby sit them with a daily spray, or every other day. will miss my garden terribly. wish I was in control of this trip, but the date is not my choice. Off to Key West again.
