When you are a gardener there are disappointments but I have learned to take them in my stride. This Laburnum tree has been with me for over 25 years and has died....either root rot or some fungus.

Every other year it looked like this.

So sad @roders. It was truly beautiful but it gave you many years of pleasure. xx

Have you any thoughts on what you may put in its place?

That is a real shame - I love to see Laburnam trees in bloom; there is one a few gardens back from mine that I can see from my chair through the patio doors, and I reckon I have missed its show for this year.

Best of luck finding a replacement

You'll get flowers in the spring, then the old man's trousers pompoms in the autumn

I can remember, going back many years when that nonsense first came into general use.

On one occasion, I phoned my boss, a rare occurrence, I rarely asked for help or advice.

                I told him, "We've got a problem."

To which he replied, "You mustn't think of it, whatever it is, as a problem, think of it more of an opportunity."

To which I replied, "Well this opportunity...." and then related the situation.

To which he replied, "Christ! That is a problem!"

It's sad when that happens, sometimes trees have a shorter life than expected, particularly those which are grafted. We had one which was, a twin trunk silver birch, the kids brought it home from school as part of the campaign, "Plant a tree in '73." It grew to around 25 feet and died after that number of years.

Sorry to hear about your tree, roders. Have you any thoughts about replacing it with something or will you leave it as it is.??

What a shame , always sad when a tree dies. I've got a large tree in my front garden that has some kind of fungal infection. I got a tree surgeon to look at it and he cut out bits of it to try and save it but it's continued to spread. I think we will have to cut it down this year .

                        Sorry to hear it .

We've lost quite a few trees in the last few years. They're a bit like old friends.

I remember, as a kid, our Laburnum died on us and it was a big tree. My father sold the wood to a wood turner. Apparently its a very sought after wood because of the grain.
