Hello everyone! Gardening is very valuable. It teach us not only how to take care of plants but also how to be patient. I am new in this discipline; however, I really enjoy it! Yesterday, when I was surfing the Internet, I found some tips that I would like to share with you. They are very usefull for beggining gardeners so stay focus and keep them on mind!
    1. Learn how long your growing season is.
    2. If you are not sure when to prune, you should prune spring-flowering shurbs such as lilacs immediately after the blooms fade.
    3. Don't grow plants that won't survive in your area.
    4. Vegetables should be grown in area that gives them 8 hours of lighting.
    5. Don't clean up everything in your garden in fall
What about you? Have you got some tips to share? Looking forward for them!

The very best way to learn about gardening is to start digging - looking on the internet is something the best gardeners seem not to have time for.

            Nice idea :blue thumb:
I'd have to think about my top five.....but at this time of the year ( in the northeast of England) number 1 would be not to be tempted to plant out my tender annuals, the sun might be shining but a frost is still possible :spinning:

Personally I find the internet very informative for plant tips :dunno:

Absolutely @Loki :) - but I`m ancient, (old ish) and when I started to learn about gardening there was no internet - or phones, or TV etc.
My grandad used to take me to his allotment, where I learned to pull weeds, and sow seeds. you cannot smell the soil on the internet.

Loki I have to agree with you on this one because before I even thought about joining a forum...I checked most of my plants for pruning on the internet and learnt quite a bit about treating my bottle brushes correctly when I had them :)

Nice idea for a thread. :blue thumb:

Although the internet can be good for information I've always found that the best advice comes from talking to other gardeners - especially old ones :old: :)

Local gardeners, people on allotments and especially in your local gardening clubs. The other advantage, apart from the good information, is that they quite often have spare plants and/or cuttings and are usually very generous.

We have a good philosophy. Be happy to give plants and cuttings to people as you know where to get them from when yours dies! :dbgrtmb:

I know what you mean, but we are on the internet right now sharing our ideas.

I do like google, it has made my shelves of gardening books mostly redundant as most information is now online - except it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. With a book or face to face you can judge the knowledge and experience of who is imparting information. Anyone online can sound authoritative but might be cutting and pasting and sometimes not doing that very well. :blue thumb:

I suppose on our GC forum we build up a picture of who is giving advice and give a bit more weight to some than others. It's the same on any forum on other subjects.

Lots of interesting gardening stuff in Viz, I seem to recall there was one character that went everywhere with a wheelbarrow.

I do find it helpful to have my smart phone in the garden with me, can very quickly check something if Im not sure about how to do it properly.

Most important thing is enjoy it don’t get stressed. If it all goes well great if it goes wrong don’t be disheartened and as others have said the internet points you in the rough direction but the people growing on the allotment/garden area are possible the best to speak to
