5 tips for begginers

Hello everyone! Gardening is very valuable. It teach us not only how to take care of plants but also how to be patient. I am new in this discipline; however, I really enjoy it! Yesterday, when I was surfing the Internet, I found some tips that I would like to share with you. They are very usefull for beggining gardeners so stay focus and keep them on mind!
1. Learn how long your growing season is.
2. If you are not sure when to prune, you should prune spring-flowering shurbs such as lilacs immediately after the blooms fade.
3. Don't grow plants that won't survive in your area.
4. Vegetables should be grown in area that gives them 8 hours of lighting.
5. Don't clean up everything in your garden in fall

I'd have to think about my top five.....but at this time of the year ( in the northeast of England) number 1 would be not to be tempted to plant out my tender annuals, the sun might be shining but a frost is still possible

Absolutely @Loki - but I`m ancient, (old ish) and when I started to learn about gardening there was no internet - or phones, or TV etc.
My grandad used to take me to his allotment, where I learned to pull weeds, and sow seeds. you cannot smell the soil on the internet.

 

Loki I have to agree with you on this one because before I even thought about joining a forum...I checked most of my plants for pruning on the internet and learnt quite a bit about treating my bottle brushes correctly when I had them

 

Lots of interesting gardening stuff in Viz, I seem to recall there was one character that went everywhere with a wheelbarrow.

 

I do find it helpful to have my smart phone in the garden with me, can very quickly check something if Im not sure about how to do it properly.

 

Most important thing is enjoy it don’t get stressed. If it all goes well great if it goes wrong don’t be disheartened and as others have said the internet points you in the rough direction but the people growing on the allotment/garden area are possible the best to speak to
