Very informative Gail. I had a beautiful pink Rhododendron and i used to look forward to it flowering every year. Then one year after a very cold winter it died as did a lovely bay tree that I had for over 10 years

        Sad to hear that.

We've several and some are quite old now. Touch wood we've never lost one, but they are tightly packed. I've a leaky hose system that waters the borders. I just turn on the mechanical control, set it for a number of gallons, then it turns itself off. My policy is "a little and often." Getting the hose out would be a chore.

and they thrive on a diet of fish poo from our koi pool pump sump. Conversely, we lost a little salix in a big tub, last year (I might have under-watered it).

:thankyou: Peter, Sorry to hear you lost them...as I've had concerns about my Rhododendron but with the info me and @JWK have been looking at, they need acid soil and I have plants in my garden which love it, so JWK (John) ID my soil as acid soil :phew: just wished it would flower :snorky:

Despite being crushed by a felled 40 yesr old cherry tree, crushed under a couple feed of snow and frozen fof days on end mine seem to be having a great yesr in fact best ever. Natures just weird!
