    Hello all

I have been trying to remove Ivy from my fencing at the bottom of the garden and have managed to remove the majority of it now.

However, I still have the Root to contend with.

What is the easiest way to remove an Ivy Root?

Do they have a large root system that goes deep or are they relatively shallow and easy to dig out?

Or is there a way to kill the root without digging?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

Depends how big the plant is, do a bit of digging, if it's too big use a stump killer :)

        Hello @Zigs

        Thanks for the reply.

I have just been out, before it got too warm and tried some digging and I am not able to get the spade in the ground around the Ivy Root.

        Any advice regarding Stump Killers?

        Thanks in advance

        Kevin

          Sounds well established then.

Follow the instructions then cover it with plastic to keep the rain off

            Easy Kevin
Cut ivy at the base. Leave as many cut woody stumps as possible then paint with SBK. Totally effective. Its how I got ivy stumps out here. By autumn you can pull away the dead pieces :)

              Hello @Verdun

              Thanks for the reply.

Is the SBK Root Killer the same as the Roundup Root Killer?

The reason I ask is that I found a bottle of the Roundup Stump Killer in the shed and do not want to purchase the SBK if the Roundup is the same.

              Thanks in advance

              Kevin

Yes Kevin, I think it is. Looking at the product it appears to be exactly the same and is designed to kill woody stuff including ivy roots :)

                  Hello @Verdun

Thanks for the confirmation, that will save some money.

Now I just need to find an old paint brush and then watch out Ivy Root, I am coming for you.

One last (stupid) question, do I just paint the cut ends or the whole root?

                  Kevin

The cut ends Kevin. If the cut ends have sealed up slightly then make fresh cuts before applying the treatment. I cut every woody stem and paint every fresh cut. This is how the stuff works....being taken by the plant itself to the roots. So, no! Dont paint the roots :)

                  Thanks @Verdun

I was always told 'there is no such thing as a stupid question only one not asked'

Do not ask, do not learn.

                  Thanks for your help.

                  Kevin

How would you use Epsom Salts to get rid of ivy?
