Decided to split the biggest new bed into fence panel sized sections, to make easier to get my head around it. A pair of new Dianthuses, matching the smaller one we put into the other bed, finish off this middle section for now. Come the Autumn I'm going to plant some dwarf tulip, daffodil and snowdrop/crocus bulbs in the two pockets underneath the rose bush.

One and a half down sections, two and a half to go. It clearly needs more height, but we went to the garden centre yesterday and nothing screamed 'buy me', so we're very much open to suggestions. Ideally something that will grow to half way up the fence panels, so that the rose bush is still slightly the tallest thing in the bed.

I know lucius...the point I tried to make is that miscanthus does withstand strong winds and does so for a prolonged period well into winter. Miscamthus will give you provacy and do so quickly.:)

@Moley Scabiosa is supposed to look good as under planting for Roses, although not tried it myself. I grow Scabiosa in pink, blue, white and burgundy, fantastic flowers from April through to October and brilliant for wildlife.

Did the horrible job of cutting my boston ivy on the side of my house wall.
I do this a few times a year. It's growing in a tiny container.
I never water or feed it and yet it grows at a ferocious rate.
I'm pretty sure the roots have escaped and gone through the paving slab.

Had to sacrifice 60-70% of our Alstroemerias as they're completely swamping the two rose bushes. The older one had just about managed to climb ahead of them to get some sunlight but the newcomer is really struggling. We dug a load out when planting the second rose, as we were worried about exactly this happening, but they certainly came back with attitude.

@Pushkin If it was just up to me, we'd have a row of them. Unfortunately for me, the person who'd be driving me to and me and them back from the garden centre hates conifers!

Been digging in the manure I was shovelling the other week. Gradually getting it done-just takes forever!

Planted up some plants I've had growing in the greenhouse. Galliarda?! (I can never remember the name properly-its something like that). And ostrich feather asters and some more rudbeckia. Oh and a few penstemon from cuttings :)

Carry on planting out annuals, fix netting onto fruit cage. Find a home for a couple of shrubs, level out path at back of greenhouse.

                          aaaaagh! Snorkey :love30:
You have houttynia chameleon in your border.....get rid asap. It is an extremely invasive plant and once established it will be nigh well impossible to eradicate. I grow it in a pot in the pool and in a pot elsewhere.

A hot day to come again ......hoping to cut lawns (sounds good, doesnt it? A front lawn and a smaller back one in my moderate size garden) but doubt if I will spend much time in the garden today
