Tomato growing

How many tom plants did you get in there? Those toms you have growing look great.

 

That is my old 8 x 6 greenhouse 21 plants in there, too many really but a great crop. I put 28 in my new set up two 8 x6 greenhouses end to end, some in quadgrows some in 12" pots.
If you have a border sinking 12" pots into the border with plenty of holes drilled into the bottom allowing roots to forage into soil you can get a massive crop from each plant. my compost and feed etc. no secret all posted on here under tomato growing

 

Think I'm watering my tomatoes wrong. I have them in halo grow pots and grow bags. Do I water both rings or just the outer one? Does anyone know thanks.

halo pots I had in the past you only water into the outer ring which permeates down into your grow bag where the large roots are. the inner part around the plant stem should be filled with potting compost, this is usually full of the small feeder roots and is only watered with feed once or twice a week depending upon your feeding program.

Growing cordon style permits me to have six plants to a side. If I relocated the tank to the center of the greenhouse I could have 8 to a side. At times I extend the cords to the peak and literally pick tomatoes off the ceiling late in the season.

 

Just toms and peppers.

 

Thanks sandymac, So I don't use the trough big ring to feed as well? but the top one where the plant sits.

yes that's right keep the compost in the inner ring just moist and water into the outer ring. feed with soluble fertilizer into the inner ring.
Did you say your halo is on grow bags, if so is that one or two grow bags. If only one grow bag it will be difficult to keep moisture levels correct as you can easily flood it or have it dry out quickly in warm weather as not much compost. Make sure you have plenty of drain holes in the bottom of the grow bag and check moisture at these drain holes as if it is not draining correctly you may pool water which will rot roots. Grow bags are probably one of the hardest methods of growing, especially toms or cucumbers, if you master growing in bags you will be able to grow anywhere

Hope someone can help me with the Tomato Plant. It seems to have grown strangely and now I have about 4 to 5 stems and not sure what to cut off.

 

It's a Heirloom cordon called Cherokee Smokey Purple. I'll try and get some different angled pictures tomorrow. I have two of these and the strange this is this one seems to have a much thicker stem and they were grown same time.
