Seems like Hawaii here.. unbelievable weather for a month! near Aberystwyth me.

Hi, I'm a 1st time homeowner (v.exciting still after 18mths) bought a cottage with, 20yr overgrown mess of a gdn, approx 1/2+ acre [inc damn knotweed], 1/2 of which I didnt even know was mine/ I bought by mistake!

I have zero gardening knowledge.. need some help/ hope you'll be kind to me (unlike n'bors- bloomin sods).

    SC

Hello and welcome @SeaChief. One of our previous gardens was your size and hadn't been tended to for 25 years . We hired a digger for a week to get rid of all the unwanted stuff, which was more or less the whole lot. Once it is all cleared you'll get a better idea of the plot. You then need to work out what sort of garden you want, i.e. veg plot, flower beds, trees and shrubs. Work out where you want paths etc and probably a patio. Maybe set yourself a target for each year of things to do. Good luck.

Hi zilly- thx for reply. Knotweed's put pay to getting digger in/ stripping lot to scratch alas.

I have to work around it, which I've started a yr ago tbh. Ive done a thread with a pic or 2. Hope you might have a look? thanks alot, SC.

Welcome to the forum @SeaChief. That is a large area are you really wanting to clear the whole lot at once and start from scratch or perhaps in stages. An area for sitting with your cuppa, then an area for growing veg, etc. ? Might make the project a little less stressful to lay out what you want and attack it area by area.

That, believe it or not, IS cleared.. you should've seen it before!

Its basically for now: forget mid area, forget lwr area.

Its just the bank area (Ive started planting a few 'pg1' things in) I need basic help with. I've so little knowledge I couldn't even answer as to what I want/ envisage for this bank.. apart from 'planty stuff': its ideas, a plan I need.

Seriously.. look Im such a fish out of water I bought a watering can right, put a stone ontop as it kept blowing over/ away (windy here). It took me a week to think of filling it with water for weight :-) daft eejet.
