Hi Martin, he's still getting all set up. He's got a fire tv box, but got to sort out the HD with that.

He's got a LG OLED 18 55inc, that's the best make. It does have issues with the fire tv in it. Only get stereo not HD. He thought that they solved the problem with last year's model. He's trying to sort that out.

Thanks but he doesn't watch football, got it for the blue ray UHD films.

As it´s a Sunday which is my baking day, I baked today an apple pie (with cream cheese stuffing and a lot of cinnamon too). I have made a crocheted bag all day (not ready yet but soon I hope) and at the evening my telly will get my attention (no, no football to me but some detective series) and maybe I´ll have some ice cream too…

Thanks, i think that he'll be able to do it. Not really sure what is the problem,I don't understand it well, but he said it's only the programmes that have hd you can watch in HD.I don't think that we'll get another in a few years time.:)

              We've had a plasma TV for 10 years.:snorky:
We don't have all the sky channels, only the news. It's something to do with the fire TV box going through the new tv.
He has the grand tour from Amazon Prime and it wasn't going through the sound system as UHD when it should.
He goes on a AV forum and he can find out on there, but thanks.:)

We had a 25" LG "elephant in the corner," TV for the best part of 20 years. Brilliant picture and the audio had a five band graphic equalizer. But, we decided we wanted one that took up less room. So, "we had to beat it to death with a stick!"

I spent a good part of the day with my sons and their families. For most of their developing years, I was Mum and Dad both. They learned basic car maintenance (and that's back wnen you could change your own distributor cap, plugs etc), appliance repairs (including water pumps, wire harnesses, bearings etc), cooking, baking, cleaning, doing laundry, and respect for women who deserve it. It was a wonderful father's day. And then I went to the pub for a quick one and pleasant company. Does it get better?

And on a side note, I have 7 televisions excluding the one dedicated to the cctv system. I rarely watch them but they are great company to listen to. Old movies have so many great conversations and music. Too much fun. I have a satellite system separate from my Canadian wifi. Spoiled rotten, I am :)

@martin-f hubby sorted it out now. He removed the fire TV box and watched from the TV. Also to listen to it through the sound system had to turn off the optical setting. He's happy now.:phew:

I mentioned about in a few years time there will be 8k TVs. He said the smallest would be 100 inches.

                    Thanks for your help.:)

After coming home from golf I had to attend to my leccy golf trolley. It has two controls an off/on switch and a speed control potentiometer. Wound right back it "clicks" and actually turns off the motor. It clicks on again as you turn it forward. Unfortunately, lately it didn't "click" when it was wound right back. The trolley stopped, but occasionally waited until you weren't looking and then it started to creep forward again. This could be a real problem if you're near one of the lateral streams.
More so those who have trolleys that you can send on towards the next tee whilst you putt out on the green. On these there's the choice of three set distances they can be sent forward. Choose the wrong one....

Mind you, we say you aren't a proper golfer until your trolley has gone into a stream at least once. Someone nearly did even better today, put a golf buggy in one of the streams. Wasn't looking where he was going, but managed to brake just in time. It does happen occasionally. Then it has to be dragged out by one of the tractors.

If a trolley goes into the water. as the banks are quite steep, it's a hell of a job to drag one out. Even more difficult if the battery comes adrift as they're the size and weight of a car battery. For which you have to go fishing.
That's your game finished for the day, as you daren't turn it on, but have to push back to the clubhouse take it home and let it dry out, then hope it still works.

Anyway, I disassembled the handle and gave the potentiometer a spray of the switch cleaner I keep for my jukeboxes. Job done. It's OK now.

But again it's the quality of stuff you get these days. It was a new potentiometer I bought last year as the previous one gave up the ghost.
Still I shouldn't complain, the trolley is now 19 years old and the only replacements it's had is just a motor, gearbox, axle, axle bearings, 2 platten clutches, set of wheels, handle, two potentiometers and no end of batteries. The only original part is the frame and I've had to repair that once.

I doubt it, but it might apply to the breaches of the dress code by some members on some courses.

We haven't got over the shock of the recent rule change that allowed men to wear jeans in the clubhouse. They still aren't allowed on the course, nor trainers in the clubhouse. Mind you, the women have worn jeans in the clubhouse or whatever they chose, for years, there's always been "one rule for them and one for everyone else."

I stopped wearing jeans when I turned forty, (I've several pairs of chinos). Nor do I possess any trainers. I've some nice leather casual shoes.
I feel you have to make the effort.

On holiday, if "people watching" when we're sitting sitting outside a pub, if you spot a middle-aged, bald, overweight man, in an Umbro sweat-shirt, track-suit bottoms, or jeans, wearing new white "holiday trainers," it will earn you ten points.

My last pair of squash shoes which when I stopped playing I wore for gardening along with a past sponsor's track suit, fell to pieces twenty years ago.

You are quite right but not always in women's favour. The golf club I belonged to had 3 entrances, men's visitors and ladies, guess which was the furthest from the car park? just wonderful if it was pouring with rain and blowing a howling gale. There was a men's bar, guest bar and the ladies had to knock on a hatch door to the men's bar to get served a drink which you then had to carry back to the ladies cubbyhole ...lounge! When a male member died the clubhouse flag was flown at half mast but not for the ladies. Not until my old Mum died when it was decided she had been such a great member of the club and had given plenty of her time to help it flourish. In recognition the flag was duly flown at half mast. This was much appreciated by myself and rest of my family. Maybe the club I belonged to would suit you @Doghouse Riley :)? altho I believe some of the inequalities have been abolished. I am no longer a member so not sure.

Any member of our club male or female who dies, gets a flag flown at half-mast from the date of notification until after the funeral and their family get the use of the clubhouse for the wake, free.

Actually, I'm quite laid back about it all, as are the many members with whom I play. We can have a laugh and a joke, but we're strong on proper golf etiquette.
We just want to play golf, we don't get into the politics. In the past women had got preferential treatment, as some of their husbands were on relative committees. Now we're "an equal opportunities," club. "Ladies day" is now reduced to one hour of one weekday. But they can play on any other day or time they choose, they can also enter mens' competitions.

As I've mentioned before, we've some sensible people running our club. In the past as I'm sure it has in many clubs, you had people in charge who'd never "managed anything" in their working lives. This can be financial disaster. But economics will eventually force them out.
Our present Hon Sec was a professional administrator. So he dragged our club into the 21st century.

It amused me, that in his first week in the job he was approached by a past captain who wanted to book "the annual competition for past captains of ours and other clubs."
"We always get use of the course free."

                                "Not any more you don't."
