@Gail_68 That acuba has been in that pot for years. It started off in the front yard. It was moved a couple of times. It never took off there. After that it got stuck behind the sheds in the back garden for I don't know how long. Last year I brought it out to fill a gap whilst I re-constructed my garden. I tidied it up and fed it and it came on leaps and bounds. This year I moved it to the patio to hide an ugly dead space behind it. There is no stopping it now. It looks right at home where it is now. Besides, it's "bleeping" heavy.

If I remember rightly, that pot design was available in lots of sizes. As pots are expensive I chose just to buy the one (£50 ish I think). Next time I wanted a pot that line had been discontinued. I find that happens a lot with me. :gaah:. It was the same with my water feature but that's a different story altogether.

Put some mirrors on one of my retaining walls.
Bightens the place up I think.

Gary to say it's done a good circle of your garden mate ;)...it's come on really nice and thick and shame they'd discontinued the pot...I have 2 large ones in blue, a lovely beige one with scrolled edges that cost me £25 and another two middle sized ones...I mentioned to hubby to throw them and it's a no go mate :snorky:...he calls me throw away :cry3:

That conifer I moved in to that pot similar to your moms as growed more since and thickened out but that's the last pot it's going in :dunno:

I gave this a haircut this evening. Can someone tell me what it actually is please? :snorky:. Had a wander around to look at the Poppies and other flowers coming into bloom - Knapweed. Spent some time watching the Pond Skaters and Hoverfly like insects ( they might be Hoverfly but look different to the usual ones I have here )

Been really busy today in the Garden planting out like a mad man, watched the footy and a bit of tennis in between but other than that in the garden.

I've been trying to empty the GH of plants so finally planted out sweet peas - cosmos - annual rudbeckia - antirrhinums and others. Moved lythrum dropmore purple behind rose Lady of shallot, had a good plant out in the front hot border as well, got my iris supreme sultran planted along with lobelai QV - saliva amistad - coreopsis zagarb - dahlia A night. Got clematis walenburg plant in that border to grow up a buddleia.

Planted out the rest of the dahlias and erygrium nepture gold and other perennials, my colocasia black coral arrived the other day so potted that up for a summer display. Give the garden a good watering, the lawn looking terrible, not used to such long periods without rain. Potted up my cucamelon as well and feed and watered the tomatoes and cucumbers. I still seem to have to many plants in the greenhouse so I think I'll take them round to mum and plant some troughs up for her.

Good job @Moley it looking much better, some nepeta or hakonechloa grass and many others would look nice spilling over the border edge.

I never know what these bugs were but still remember them, a while back now when I was about 8 I went to a agricultural show with mum. Me in my little yellow polo shirt were covered head to toe with these little bugs :hate-shocked: :heehee: I am sure I ended up sitting in the car in just my underwear.

The campers who come here often bring something yellow to place just away from their caravans, and then the flying creatures are attracted away from them while they barbecue....guess what colour my new tractor is :uh-oh: upload_2018-6-25_0-38-11.jpeg

                            :ThankYou: :)

It's stunning when in full bloom and wildlife friendly, but it doesn't last long. Blooms fade after just a couple of weeks. The leaves variegated so it still looks good.

Yesterday evening we settled to eat our evening meal outside - a BBQed "hatchet" steak. (a small rib-eye, left on a long rib). I struggled to eat my meal, as there were two very determined wasps, determined to sample every fork-full. We retreated inside, enjoyed our meal, then had a good wander around the garden, finding an active wasps nest in a mouse hole in the grass.

So, first thing this morning, whilst the insects were still drowsy, I filled the mousehole with our sand-soil. It was tickled into the hole - in the same way I fill any rodent hole in the grass that I find - and then a slight mound placed on top. Within minutes, there were up to 50 wasps buzzing around, trying to find the entrance to the nest! At 7am in the morning, with the temp at just 12c!

We suspect it is a new nest, with a batch of "workers" having hatched within the last couple of days. Whilst we have lots of buzzers around the place, including hornets, I don't want a nest in the grass on the "path" to the veg beds, next to the herb bed. Hopefully they will be discouraged, and choose to make a nest in the unmanaged land plots next to us instead.

So, today's gardening will be relatively cautious, taking unusual paths around the garden!
