My garden is full of weeds and nettles

Hi all,

I am planning to sort my garden out this Month.

The garden is full of weeks and has some some nettles.

Do I rotvate the garden and lay grass seed and just start again?

Do I spray weed killer?

Any other suggestions would be gratelly appreciated.

to the forum Andrew. How about posting some pictures of your garden so we can see just what`s on the cards. I daresay you may get loads of good ideas about what to do then.
I can tell you that I think there is no quick fix, and the best way is to tackle a bit at a time, and use a good old fashioned garden fork to dig out and remove as many weeds as you can.
Is it a new garden? Has it been used to grow stuff before?
If we could have a look maybe we can make a cunning plan

 

I am a weedkiller person when they're used sensibly and efficiently It will all hinge on whether they're perennial, persistent weeds like bindweed, thistles, nettles and brambles, or just annual weeds that you need to prevent from setting seed. Look fforward to seeing some photos so we can advise you appropriately!

 

Show us a picture of the way it stands now Andy so I and others can make a better judgement on which way to tackle it.

The judicious use of weedkillers as a one off can be very effective in ridding the garden of weeds and their roots so it's the way I would proceed Andrew.

No, dont rotovate.....it spreads weeds everywhere. Far better to dig over your plot. Instead of focussing on getting it sorted next month, why not proceed slowly and surely? Kill the weeds now, then turn the soil and clear it of weed roots, stones etc. and aim for sowing grass seed in September? September is by far the best month for sowing grass seed. Get the lawn sorted then work from there

As members have said pictures do help for members to help you more...our garden was a right mess when we had it but my hubby strimmed the lot down first...then started doing diagrams of how we wanted the garden and then came the digging out...it was hard craft and we had quite a few skips but to watch the transformation gives a person a boost of what they're achieving and also taking pictures every step of the way...gives you a good look back of how you've transformed a total mess into something your enjoying.
