Ha ha....for the sake of reality, of course I do not have a name for my soil. Exactly that Tetters, it was all a bit of fun.:lunapic 130165696578242 5: Ah well! Joke clearly not seen by all but no matter :). Reading the context may help see where the "joke" originated!!

If folk can grow plants well and enjoy them that's absolutely fine. However, I would always advise ericaceous soil for pieris and not just because it is classified in the ericaceae family :)

I always suggest people test the PH of their soil.....,it is important I think esp as the cost of such a test is very cheap.

I didn't realise there was some kind of joke going on here  but then I don't have much in the way of a sense of humour.

Thank you very much @Doghouse Riley for the very informative post on the lantern..I built mine in much the same fashion but used solar power instead...I need to build another squat lantern at the top of the waterfall so its either build it myself of buy one...and we all know how much these things cost...How and with what did you darken the cement render..They look awesome with age.
          Regards C

The rabbits cut these down for us! :gaah: Fortunately we have loads of them and they seem to keep away from other things.

@strongylodon after the disastrous winter stripping of our Saphora the leaves have regrown and we're into a second, albeit not profuse, blooming
              P1390603.JPG

The nodding grasses were popular at our Open Garden and anyone who bought them was given a warning about their rampant proclivities. :) They're brilliant for flower arranging. The start off very white but were beginning to go over by the time I took this picture.

@wiseowl we can no longer remember the name, or type, of this rose. It's single petalled, highly scented, each flower doesn't last much more than a day or so but gets replaced throughout the whole of the summer. It has very big hips :heehee: and the stems are covered in thousands of thorns. I'll take a photo again when they open but these were taken early morning.

Campanula lactiflora grows very profusely but needs a lot of support as it grows up to 5ft and the weight is in the mass of flower at the top. These were lying on the ground and they have only just been tied up so will fill out more in a few days.

Verbascum chaixii grows wild in our veg plot (literally, hundreds of them) and they attract the pollinators

Not a normal shot for this topic but these Poplars are where our Woodpeckers live. We have a row of them but the gap is because we had to have one taken down. Monet wouldn't have approved :heehee:

Monet can't complain, I'm sure he took the inspiration for the second figure in this.

Sorry tetters, you've mixed up the names here. Shiney has C. Lactiflora which has strong upright bushy growth . There's not a C. Lactifolia but there is a C. Latifolia however, this is another upright.

@KFF this is always confusing  as both are uprights but both of them prefer to flop down under the weight of the flowers. They are very difficult to tell apart, leaves are slightly different, and the RHS puts the maximum height for both at .5 - 1m. Ours tends to be much closer to 2m and always at least 1.5m. :dbgrtmb: Ours, also, doesn't fit the colour description as they are nearer a pale blue :noidea:
