Well, here in West Cheshire we don't seem to have that kind of intrusive council:dunno::snorky: There's only 6 houses in my little Grove and one or two of my neighbours would be out wielding a Baseball bat if anyone started lifting the lids of anyone's Bins.:paladin::heehee:

It's probably a "shotgun technique" with a text message.

If water were ever put on a smart meter though....

My water supplier can never send me a text as they haven't got my mobile phone number, I'd never give it to any supplier.

I've had my lawn sprinklers on too.

However about ten years ago a woman from United Utilities called and asked if she could check the quality of the water from one of her taps.
I only let her into the kitchen, where she tested the water from the tap over the sink. The window behind it overlooks our koi pool, but she wouldn't have been able to see it due the the wisteria over the window, or hear it because we didn't have any windows open. So if there was another reason why she came, I've no idea.

However utility companies only have to look at Google View to see who in their areas have ponds, koi pools or swimming pools.

Sprinkler heads would be hard to spot!

Our water charges are based on rateable value. We aren't on a meter.

My koi pool would have to go if we were on a meter, like many koi keepers, we trickle change the water 24/7 in addition to filters UVs and air pumps. We use thousands of gallons a year that way.
But then we're paying nearly £1000 a year for the privilege.

As we are on a water meter, because I had the sprinkler out on the lawn, it makes me wonder if the amount of water being used, triggered the text message

The previous owner had the meter fitted as she was here on her own and didn't use much water. We use loads of it. Hopefully by the winter I will get the water butt set up. I can use that instead then.

I get charged for every ounce coming in and then the same amount for sewage. Doesn't matter if it goes on the lawn or down the loo. I get charged for the whole lot twice.

That is why I am soooo determined to collect lots of rain water. So far mother nature has been generous in watering the lawn and beds. Too lucky!
