Our house phone is left unplugged Gail and we told our mobile phone provider that under no circumstances our numbers are shared with anyone even themselves if they want to contact us send us a letter, we don't get any calls/text only from family friends, i do have a business phone but that's very rarely switched on/used now days it will be going next month when the contract runs out,

I don't want anyone contacting me if i want something i will go out and get it:).

I would have replied with a text asking the water companies to reduce the 3 BILLION LITRES they waste daily due to leaky pipes.:wow:

Very hot again and quite tired today, so not much done in the garden.

I had a wander around front garden to admire the Poppies. The Malva Alba and Knapweed planted amongst the grass have begun flowering :yay:. Lots of Pond Skaters on the pond :yahoo:

Newly purchased pond pump arrived and decided to make a bird fountain. One large plastic bowl, a few rocks, small piece of driftwood and water and it was done. I set it up on the patio table and got out a zero chair. I had been reclined for about 10-15 mins, eyes closed listening to the trickle of water and tweeting of birds. Suddenly felt little feet on my lower leg. Opened an eye and saw a newly fledged Sparrow walking up my leg , all yellow beak and fluffy feathers :wub2:. He/she got as far as my stomach, stopped and stood there looking at me for a few seconds. Then hopped up onto the patio table and walked around on it and after about 5 minutes finally worked out how to climb onto the alpine pot to get access to the fountain. A bath and drink ensued :wub2:. Both parents with another baby were on the patio wall staring down with looks of consternation at their offspring :heehee:.

A lot of our time is also taken up with watering. It takes an hour with the hose to water all plants in greenhouse, under cover and in pots. This is now necessary twice a day. The sprinkler is also going a lot of the day and our water pressure is not too bad. The advertising for the sprinkler says it covers 350sq m but it only covers 250sq m. It's still a goodly area covered so not complaining. The lawns have to fend for themselves and never get watered.

I save water by not washing my car. It has had one wash in ten years :snorky:

I did just a little weeding and also dug up about 400 lychnis seedlings for someone. This has hardly made a dent in the amount of seedlings, all self-seeded, that are covering a large area of the veg patch. I just gave the seedlings to them in their clumps so they had a bonus of weeds and grass. :heehee:

Hi Shiney , can I pick your brain please ( I've got my rubber gloves on - it'll be fine :) ) .

Are your Lychnis the L. Coronaria type ? If so do they come true from seed or will you get a mix of colours. I've got loads of the cerise one but no white or pink. If they're all gonna be the same I'll dig them out. ( I've got a packet of mixed seed to start off for next year ).
Also, do you know if you can grow Lycchnis Chaledonica ( Maltese Cross ) from saved seed ? I've had a fantastic show off them this year.

They'll probably fall apart anyway :snorky:

Yes , they're the coronaria. To be honest, I don't really know the answer but I always understood they came true from seed - except that the tones could vary depending on the climate that year. Neither of us remember acquiring the white ones but we certainly have both mixed together. That's not a definitive answer as we've had them for so long they've spread all over the garden and may have become promiscuous with some that could have appeared from other gardens.

Yes, you can grow Chalcedonica from seed. Make sure they are ripe first (grandmother and sucking eggs comes to mind :heehee:) and then save them in a paper bag so that they dry out properly. You can wait until Spring to sow them but if you have a cold frame you could start them off earlier.

I did some more weeding early this morning and I've just finished the watering for this evening and moved the sprinkler to the front garden. I repotted a couple of dozen chilli plants and they seem very happy.
