    I WON......er, I mean we won! :) England won the footie. And won at penalties. :)

    In the garden earlier, cut down a couple of tall delphiniums....they have performed for several weeks now; more flowers in August from them.:hapflowers2:

    The rest of the heleniums are now starting to flower, persicarias, sanguisorbas, dahlias, etc too. Lots of tomatoes forming.

    Maybe an hour of light rain this evening.....not enough to do much; more overcast this afternoon and refreshingly (relatively) cooler. Temperatures on the up again by the weekend so the heatwave goes on:SUNsmile:

    And I've ordered another couple of thalictrums.....wont do much this year but will build up for a good show next season :)

      Yes :dbgrtmb: It's dead easy :)

      Cook, whichever way you like it (chunky or stewed, with or without additional flavours - sugar, syrup, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange, vanilla, lemon etc.) Chuck it in an ovenproof dish and pour on a basic sponge mix.

      The sponge cooks much better if you put it on hot rhubarb. If you put it on cold rhubarb the cold juices soak into the bottom of the sponge mix as it's rising and that part takes longer than the top. Therefore you might burn the top before the bottom is cooked. It still soaks in if it's hot but the sponge cooks quicker at the bottom. Use a slightly lower temperature than you would for just cooking sponge for a cake. That way you can avoid burning the top. Otherwise, if the top is cooked and the bottom isn't then stick it in the microwave and it will finish cooking it without burning. I don't use a microwave :noidea:

          Thanks @shiney i will have a go at that. Got lots of rhubarb, i cook a lot of it and portion it up and put in freezer. Mainly i put it in a mixed fruit compote and make crumbles. I'll put some spice in, hubby will like that.:smile:

              As soon as I went out to prune the Callistemons which had finished flowering, it started to rain and quite heavy. A blessing as we're all desperate for it but it could have waited till I'd finished or perhaps I should have started earlier!:biggrin:

                      Hiya Logan, my favourite here is thalictrum splendide white. Shines like a beacon. Yes, seems not to attract any pests. I have it near lavendar hedge and next to a red helenium and everyone seems to like it .Been in flower for 5 weeks (?) and looking to flower a lot longer yet :)

                        Thank you @Logan and @Verdun - I have just googled thalictrum and it has gone straight to the top of my wish-list! Unfortunately, my moist and part-shady area of the garden is already overcrowded, but I should be able to fit it in somewhere!

                          Yes Sian, get something out to accommodate one. Spoil yourself :) You know you deserve it :snorky:

                          Thalictrum Elin here is very tall with black stems, blue foliage and delightful purple/ cream flowers but without bulk. It looks good with most everything.

                          My plants are in full sun, by the way. Good moist soil, yes, but adaptable :)

                          Hewitt's Double and Black Stockings are heading my way too.:)
