WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2018

Dead heading, weeding, harvesting raspberries, gooseberries, redcurrants and peas. Then we'll see.

 

@Fflur, we have a terrible problem with midges up here, and they have blighted many promising evenings. I get bitten especially badly. Recently I tried using Xpel wipes, and they are working spectacularly well. I've found a photo of them online, but I think they are very widely available. I'm sure mine came from Semichem.

 

I try at least once everyday...lol....It must be the smell of the Lavender or the touch of Mint...I think I'm addicted to Mint..I cant bypass the stuff

 

Today I'm going to pick a few ripe tomatoes from the Greenhouse and plant a drill of lettuce leaves now its cooled down a little in there...and feed....Outside its raining hooray..lol...Ivy needs a trim before it starts to get out of hand... so mainly in the Greenhouse today...My pepper plants have gone mental..I have loads, too many really, next season I will just plant a few...Apache seems to be the most successful year on year where we live so I may curtail to just growing this.

Ha ha, I know what you mean BigC.....currently I have a long lavendar hedge in full flower; the garden is full of lavendar smell. Its what summer is about
Yep, mint too so I think you will like these 2......Lippia citriodora, lemon verbena; the strongest poss lemon smell. In a pot on the path, by a seat or door is perfect. Also salvia elegans, pineapple sage. An amazing pineapple scent from the foliage.

 

I must look out for these or some of them..Its not all about the visuals the smells are also very important...sitting among Lavender is amazing I'd love to have a full border of English Lavender...but sadly we're running out of room in our patch so its curtailed to pots around the seating areas....but still the smell punctures the air...

 

Right, plant them in pots BigC.....promise you the scent when you brush past them is sensational.

Big on scent here so can I recommend the perennial heliotrope to you? Heliotrope arborescens var chatsworth the cherry pie plant. From early summer through to autumn the scent fills the air. I have several of these around the garden but 4 or 5 around front door.....posties and most everyone who calls here asks about the scent

Took your advice Tetters.....supervising the reinstatement here today of niece's front garden. Not a big job at all but no skimping will be allowed. The guys dont like it but, hey!

Well went to the tip today and got rid of the builders bag of green waste. I'll do a bit of watering later but I am not going to stress myself about it.

My husband is back from his mountain biking holiday in Whistler in half an hour so looking forward to seeing him. Got us a franks hot wings chicken wings ready, pulled pork nachos etc ready and a few beers. He's not interested in the football but I am and I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway - that's got nowt to tdo with gardening lol.

Any thoughts on what I could put in the beds that are now empty for a quick crop?? (NOT lettuce as sick of it ha ha).

 

Ha ha Snorky....the other day somebody mentioned apple pie and cream. I just HAD to have it. Cornish clotted cream naturally :bigthumb:Its how the ads work of course!

Now I fancy those chicken wings and beers

Made sure niece's garden was reinstated perfecty today

 

Just finished up in the Greenhouse
Planted 3 drills of Lettuce/Salad Leaves
Tidied up the Strawberry baskets and took some cuttings
Picked some nice large Ailsa Craig tomatoes
Tended to the Chilli plants and gave them a good shake to pollinate them
I also cut and tidied up the Ivy before it became too rampant over the pergola
and swept up the pathways after those pesky birds.

Meanwhile the Baby Cucumbers are starting to make a show

 

Just back in from other half’s and as I had discovered another wasp nest with it this time situated under my decking step so I thought I would deal with it as it’s near dark.
Got some foam wasp nest pesticide and just sprayed the entrance knowing the nest must be the other side. The noise after I sprayed was quite something but they had to go.
I only noticed it the other day.
