What's this in my Calla Lily pot?

Hello, this nice looking plant seemed to turn up overnight in a pot I have a Calla Lily in. Can anyone tell me what it is and what I should do with it?

Also, can I plant a Calla Lily in the ground or will it be better in a pot?

It looks like a peanut, do you feed the birds?

If it is the white calla lilly it would probably be ok in the ground.
I'd be a bit careful if it is coloured, they are a bit tenderer, is that a word?

 

I dont think in my dictionary it has much to do with house painting

 

I try to but the birds don't come! I use sunflower hearts. If it's a peanut I suspect what has happened is a squirrel has buried a monkey nut in there? I don't know where they get them from but I find them buried all over - usually hollow though. Is it worth replanting it somewhere? Does it make a nice plant?

I'm not sure what colour the calla lily is. I bought it reduced a few years ago when it had finished flowering. It comes back every year but has never flowered which is why I'm wondering if it needs to go in the ground. This year I repotted it to see if that would make a difference. No flowers so far!

On the KP advert it says 140 days of sunshine, its been good, but it aint going to be that good, so more of a novelty plant really, if you pot it on separately, and keep it as warm and sunny as possible you might get to see the small yellow flowers and the funny way they push a shoot underground after fertilisation, the nuts form on the ends of the shoot underground.

As to the Calla, I';d keep it in a pot, looks like a tender one to me.
They tend to flower on the previous years growing, so if they grow well and get ripened this year they stand a better chance of flowering next year.
I'd keep it in a pot and start using tom feed from now till abot mid Sept, then dry it off and keep it in its pot overwinter cool but frost free.
Take out the corms next spring and pot in fresh compost around April.

Then keep your fingers crossed.
