    Hello all

There is an Ivy that is growing from the Neighbours garden which we would both like to be rid of, however, it is not accessible from his garden and there is a fence panel in front of it on my side.

This is how it looks from my side:

Like I said both my Neighbour and I want it gone but access from his side is impossible as there is a conifer in the way.

I am having new fences fitted tomorrow so hopefully I will be able to cut the main Trunk when the fence panel is removed, is this the best way to proceed?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

Yes. If you can cut all growth from the main root, and use whatever herbicide you prefer (I always stick with an overdose of Epsom salts) cover with substantial plastic and weigh it down, the root will rot. It would help if you drill holes in the root and make sure the salts go right inside.
Just thought I'd add... Wrens love to nest and shelter in ivy. :)

        Hello @Tetters

        Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I do not think I am going to have the opportunity to do too much as I am going to have to do it whilst the fencers are working.

I do have some RoundUp Concentrate, would that work?

Unfortunately, I have never seen any Wrens around here, only Sparrows, Tits, Starlings, Blackbirds, Thrushes, Robins, Finches etc.

        Thanks

        Kevin

If you could drill some decent sized holes in the main stems after cutting down, and use a small funnel to fill them with SBK, it just might finish off the big stuff, just stop up the holes with putty or similar, bound to be a few smaller bits rooted in the area though which you can dig up or pull out.

Hiya Kevin :)Similar to Pete... expose as much wood as possible and "paint" the fresh cuts with SBK. It works 100%. I have eradicated ivy very quickly this way. In a few weeks you will be able to pull out the dead foliage

              Hello all

I had the fencing company here today and they will be here for the next couple of days.

After they removed the fence panel obscuring the Ivy Root they were kind enough to cut the main Trunks down to approximately 6" from the ground and also disposed of the cuttings.

I then painted the cut Stumps with RoundUp Root Killer as that is all I have but it does say that it kills Ivy.

Hopefully soon there will be no more Ivy :)

              Thanks for your advice.

              Kevin
