I've just picked 4lb runners and 3lb Bridgwater beans. Haven't bothered to weigh the courgettes as I sold them before I got a chance

All 50'ish of my coloured seed sweetcorn plants have grown blind and failed to produced a single cob, only tassels at the tops. I blame the drought.

@Scrungee sorry to hear that.

I was out early this morning picking beans. Bagged up 6lbs of runners and 13lb Bridgwater for sale and they've all gone already (this time of year I have people asking me to email them when I've got some ) :dbgrtmb:. I must be out of practice as I have a sore thumb from picking!

I'll send them by carrier pigeon.

A lot of the flowers on the runners have been dropping or not setting but I have enough plants to cope with it. The Bridgwater have done exceptionally well as I only have 22 plants.

Today's picking, tomatoes and runner beans now coming thick and fast and far too many cucumbers. The courgettes are also growing too quickly, one is marrow sized. Blackberries are lovely this year, really sweet they must like this dry sunny weather. A few gooseberries:

Good going @JWK. Snap re Cucumbers.2 of my 3 plants have gone ballistic while the 3rd seems intent on producing predominantly males flowers, so few being produce on that 1. Any ideas why? Same seed, same sowing time, all in the greenhouse so clueless as to why. I only ever need the amount off 2 plants but grow 3 as insurance if 1 legs it or misbehaves:) as this 1 is, Postie has just been and yup away with 2 whoppers.
Sungolds are now in full production and they remind me why we all go to quite a fair bit of effort to grow our own vegs. Gorgeous as usual, Garden Pearls were usefully earlier than the Sungold. Tumbling Toms ok but a bit hard skinned, maybe due to it being so hot?
I don't grow fruit other than apples but have productive verges around these parts. Got about 1 1/2 lbs of goosegogs a couple of days ago, all scoffed by the time I got back to the house and also pigged out on some wonderful be they small wild raspberries. I had a good look see inside them before demolishing as often then have grubs inside the fruits but the ones I found were bug free:yay:. I really love gooseberries and am contemplating having a go at growing them. Are they quite easy and do they need a summer like this 1 to perform well? Do the plants need to be of a good age to fruit well? If it's a case of them taking 10 years to be productive I won't bother as I could well be pushing up the you know what's by then:)

Hi silu, my goosegog bush is in its third year. It had a few last year when it was in its second year. Never grown one before so not sure if they need really good sun each year, I guess not as they must be the same as other soft fruit which are not fussy.

Seriously though, I've had a few tommies like this lately. Heat distress?

No idea.. it's the only one! But I noticed a few strawberries had 2 or 3 pointy tips to them too instead of the usual 1. (Very tempted to put nips then :roflol:)
