@Snorky85 lovely shot mate and look at the eyes glowing in the dark :snorky:

When we lived at our other property and I had my staffy...I heard him going a game the one night, went to check on him and he must have clocked an hedgehog and it curled up, he'd only got it in his mouth spikes as well tossing his head from side to side, so when we came here if I clocked any no way was he out :phew:

Hedgehogs eat fish. I've often read on sea fishing forums about sea anglers seeing them on the beach snacking on their bait/catch.

P.S. Shetland ponies love tuna sandwiches as somebody working at the stables where my daughter rode found out when one stole her lunch.

Snorky found this info mate until Lucius comes on and you may find the link interesting RSPCA :)

                    Feeding hedgehogs
Food and fresh water will encourage hedgehogs to return. Leave out foods like tinned dog or cat food (not fish-based) and crushed dog or cat biscuits. Specialist hedgehog food is also recommended and can be bought from wildlife food suppliers.

How cute! I would absolutely love to see a hedgehog, I've never seen one in real life. But I've always wanted to as I think they're pretty amazing little creatures. We have been trying to make our garden as wildlife friendly as possible and hope one day we will get some hedgehogs visiting. We have heard rustling under one of our hedges at night but could be a neighbours cat, we haven't actually seen what it was making the noise. I did get hubby to cut a whole in the fence to make a hedgehog highway they could go through if they do visit :)

A hungry hedgehog will eat almost anything it can find. Please - do not feed fish, pork or dairy.
They cannot digest milk, and this could aggravate their system. Feed cat or dog food that is meat flavoured - without gravy as this can also have a bad effect on their digestive system.
The old idea of 'bread and milk' will blow them out - a nasty death!!

Thank you for all your advice re fish. I've decided not to feed it fish JUST IN CASE! I'm sure my dogs will eat it instead. I'll get them the chicken one when I go to the shop next.

Snorky, I have only learned about hedgehogs in the last few years, as the people who are the local wildlife rescue have been teaching me, and I am able to help out from time to time.
My place is about 4 acres, and I do not use poisons so it is ideal for releasing rescued hogs when they are ready. We have several families of them here, and are trying to monitor them as best we can.
We cared for one earlier this summer who fell off a wall and appeared to be quite ill (and ratty with it) it turned out that he was drunk, and suffered an awful hangover the next day. He had probably been raiding beer traps left for slugs in the village.
Feeding hogs dried cat or dog kibble is perfectly acceptable - and less flies in the hot weather :)

So you know how I said I'd never seen a hedgehog? Look who visited in the early hours of this morning!! Hubby heard the rustling again and went out to investigate and this was the noisy little culprit. So adorable and I am so happy!
