I can remember back in the 80s, you were considered a paria, and made to go and stand behind a white line, if you wanted a smoke.

Yeah, look at it now, over hear you are thrown outside if you want a smoke.

Think California tends to bring these things in faster than most states, but must admit they are upfront about it.
Why do we need plastic straws any way.
      I prefer to drink out the bottle.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

There are similar rumblings here @redstar, and in fairness we do need to drastically reduce the use of plastics globally, as the damage to the environment and wildlife is just horrendous. Having said that, I completely agree with you that it is ridiculous to put a paper straw into a plastic packet, as that completely defeats the purpose.

Plastic straws are a drop in the ocean......literally. Seriously do you really believe anyone is going to jail for having a plastic straw?....get real @redstar. What are you doing to cut down your plastic use? But then again you probably think plastic is not a problem.......after all some big packaging producer and Trump enabler donating millions will argue about the jobs plastic manufacturers create.

In fairness to the BBC, yes they are a wee bit biased, but ITV have Piers Morgan - 'nuff said..... ;)

He did well then....... I'm not suggesting she is thick, but when she remembers her own name, it comes as a surprise to her.

You have no idea what fun it is watching BBC1. I did that whilst visiting ... I kept expecting it to yell at me to mind the gap! The English accents are soooo lovely. They could inform me that wrinkles are known to cause cancer and I would think about it... but they don't broadcast a lot of nonsense.

I've seen revised versions telecast by Direct TV or Dish which are called "BBCAmerica". Very lovely accents but different messages. That said I like watching/listenening to a news station out of New York city. They've even noticed that Canucks like their show and now actually show Lake Ontario, Erie, etc on their weather maps :)

I have only just caught this thread, at first I thought it was about Donald Trump. It now appears to be about plastic. Cut to the chase. Can someone provide a date when, universally, PLASTIC hit the headlines? Now can some of the media responces be heard again.

Most likely comments such as. Plastic is the new found saviour of the world. It's strong, durable, resistant to rot and decay, it will endure for hundreds of years, it's cheap to produce.

Great! Is there anyone actually old enough to prove the life span of plastic? During these new discoverery days, did anyone ask. What do we do with the waste plastic. The questions could go on and on. Now turn your attention to the users of plastic. Not only are we condidering the plastic botle being dropped in the street or park, at the seaside, what do I do with this empty plastic container. Industry. Shiploads, lorry loads of plastic wrapping, what do we do with it? Now finally as always. The powers to be, sit comfortably on their thumbs and say. Yes, we have a problem here, we will have to have a debate upon it. The clock continues to tick. I'm close to 79 yrs old. Not in my lifetime, nor you my friend now aged 50.

Have to laugh as Trump is saying in the Daily Mail on line that The Queen kept him and his wife waiting the other week for around 10/15 minutes when he flew into the U.K. and he is saying that they were sitting on the tarmac in the aircraft waiting for her which can’t be the truth because if anyone knows how the Queen works everything is done to a precise time frame and if the Trumps were early then I am sure they would have flown his plane round the airfield a few times until it was the correct time to land. The video footage shows her majesty standing there all that time waiting for him and what got me was the fact that he walked in front of the Queen and made her walk behind him:yikes: Talk about bad manners especially as she is 92.And his supporters would say that things are done differently across the pond but he would have had instructions whispered in his ear on how to address the Queen especially on how to bow(men) and curtesy (ladies)in her presence

I still think the way he is shouting his mouth off he will become a marked man.At least you didn’t see the hatred for Obama when he was in power like you do since Trump got in:rasp:
