I am amazed at the number of different seeds that are available to buy. I want to start growing heritage/hierloom varieties. Please can you recommend some websites where to buy the seeds. Thank you

I use ebay for some tomato seeds, Premier seed and SeeKay are the two sellers I use.

Some sites in the U.S. sell a huge variety of tomato seeds, but most do not ship to the UK, but this one does DT Seeds although you may need to email Dale to check postage. It's a little disorganised! Local gardener is new king of growing tomatoes

P.S. Tataniana has retired and her Tomatobase website detailing most varieties is offline (last time I checked).

Shame about Tatiana's website, learned a lot from there.

I got tomato seed from Tatiana this year. IIRC she is thinking of stopping selling seed. Hopefully she'll get the website's database back up at some point, and fingers crossed she'll sell off remaining stock, for those of us with a liberal interpretation of import restrictions.

I'd be very happy to offer seed to anyone interested in more unusual varieties, though these days the mainstream companies do stock lots e.g. Thompson & Morgan, so try their end of season clearance. DM me if you're interested in free seed from me.

I'd like to get my hands on some Manx Marvel.

Real Seed Company are a good one to know about. They tell it straight, whereas more commercially oriented companies will happily make claims about colourful varieties that don't make good eating.

My personal favourites are Bloody Butcher (early), Chereola (cherry), Teton de Venus (greenhouse, heart-shaped, sweet) and (Japanese) Black Trifele (for later fruit). I did a clearout last year and binned seed from varieties I don't like, or that weren't good quality seed, but still have around 40 varieties. Other interesting ones I'd recommend are 0-33 (cold tolerant, early), and green zebra (later and some lines of this can be grainy)

Tatiana's website is offline but hoping to come back again - but as said only as a database not selling seeds anymore.

It is possible to view her archived webpages use the WaybackMachine project (needs some patience on loading) :
