We are sitting at 74f and it is raining now. It rained heavily on the way to the nursery this morning. Had the wipers on high speed and still had to slow down to 50k to be safe. It stopped in time for my sister and I to wander around there and have a nice little cuppa and brownies. Then we visitrd the lavendar farm and were treated to oppressive heat and humidity. Finally when arriving at my granddaughter's birthday party, it strted clouding over a little. Then it began raining about 20 minutes after we go home.

Had a massive flash with a thunderclap a split second behind that shook the house. And another downpour.

      Lucky, lucky Lori.

Everything is standing proud out there :)

Nice to get up and oipen the windows to a brisk breeze and cooling air. A short shower and then the sun came out and. Fans on, lots of iced water. I look out upon my garden and see so many plants, shrubs keeling over. It really is soul destroying. Several roses have become victims. My viburnum opulus is as dead as a dodo. The hydrangea is all but fossilised, the cornus will have to be cut back almost to the ground. Ribes, philadelphus and buddliah have reached for the stars and irrespective of pruning times, if and when I can get out there, there will be a vast change to my garden. I have a Thuga plicata that has taken off and sadly will have to come down.

It amazes me when some folk poo poo the idea of climate change.

Mike sorry to hear how your plants are going...I had two hydrangea's that couldn't take the heat here although watered daily...found a new home for them in the shade what they like :) but otherwise all my plants are flourishing and loving the heat and sun all day but my hubby said ours being gravelled and watered every two days is holding moisture for the plants.

I've been watering a different part of the garden every night and spot watering plants that have wilted. I have lost some and many are under-performing as I don't have time to give everything a proper soaking. I was away for two weeks holiday and things really looked bad when I got back. But on the other hand I absolutely love the hot sunny weather and being able to sit out in the garden till late evening is such a treat.

Last night it did actually rain if you can call it that, more a heavy dew as my rain catching bucket is looking damp :) Still it all helps, the weeds in my lawn are nice and green!

John I've been doing the same as your regarding watering but have re-homed to hydrangea's to a neighbour several doors up who as tree's where the shade will help them, although they was getting the water...one kept wilting and the sun was burning the other bad.

Well I hope you had a lovely break :) and there is that to it with the heat you can sit out at night, it's the humidity that strikes hard :phew: and weeds always flourish :snorky:...we had a down pour yesterday afternoon for an hour it all helps.

Well I hope your now back home, you can get some of your plants more established with you watering them :fingers crossed: :)

It has been drizzling very lightly since 7.30 a.m. and is 61F/16C at the moment. We need a lot of rain so maybe I should hang out the washing.
