The biggest was 14.5" all way round and I think it weighed 1lb 8.5oz. Hubby also said it wasn't Kelsae we grew, it was Mamouth onions.

I had a little go at giants this year, but not from seed. It was a last minute decision and I was passing Robinsons on the way home from my Dad's in the spring, so I nipped in and bought some little plants. It was really quite late but they still did quite well all things considered.

My best was a couple of drams short of 2lb.

I may try from seed next year.

Robinsons Mammoth Improved Onion, but I grew them from bought seedlings. I think I will have a proper go next season, from seed.

My Kelsae's are 18" to 19" circumference at the moment, I grew 10 from pips and the rest from seeds. The ones from pips I grew in individual 14" pots the seed grown ones are in a raised bed, all are roughly the same size.
I started them all around mid January. I have shaved a seed head this year to get more pips and I am going to start them mid November to see if I can get some really big ones next year, I remember years ago the growers from Easington starting the seed/pips as early as October.
              See this years below DSC00985.JPG

I'm getting pretty cheesed off with this @JWK. First he ruins my illusions that my tomatoes are sensationally good and now done the same with his flaming onions. Mine wouldn't look out of place in a jar of pickled silver skins. Who agrees he should be banned from posting photos of his growing efforts?:)

Oh great, rub salt into the wound why don't you @sandymac :snorky: In fairness my somewhat pathetic offerings were never meant to be enormous (fat chance) as I was only growing them to eat as really partial to boiled mild onions and very buttery white sauce, yum!
I sowed Bedfordshire Champion and Unwins Exhibition in my heated propagator at the beginning of February. Then transferred them to an unheated greenhouse in about late March? The beast from the east slowed everything down somewhat and then I planted mine out in very fertile soil in middle of May. I have to admit they did have to compete with a fair doze of weed as I was busy doing other things which won't have helped I expect but I was surprised the tops keeled over quite early for where I live (Scotland), perhaps because of the scorching summer. What I got were just about passable and a good bit bigger than silver skins to be honest but nothing to even come close to what you experts have been growing.
