It's not water @Verdun it's just dead leaves from where it got dry last winter, I dont have E. cante outside, or not that one at least, I think the rain causes havoc with the white coating.

Its been in the same pot for probably 3 yrs, just the odd feed.

Would like to get more Aeoniums, but find they stop growing in the summer unless you water really well.

I have a real beauty in aeonium phoenix flame Pete. Less leggy than zwarskopf
Yes, they do need watering in summer for continuous growth
Am excited now about visiting Surreal Succulents tomorrow :)

Nope, but it does need to be grown under cover. The foliage has a powdery bloom which is what gives it that 'ghostly' tint.

Hhhmmm - mine has just the three (small) offsets now but, dare I say it, a second flower stem emerging :snorky:

Took me a while to work out what was wrong with that photo but I got there eventually - it's an unopened bottle!!!!!!!!!!

        ...............

I agree. Even though the roots seem very small Echeveria respond rapidly to repotting and lots of space.

I have had second flushes this summer on echeverias.
Will be buying more today...plus picking the brains of the growers :)

IMG_5221.JPG Bought these this morning to add to my collection and duly potted on. More were purchased but claimed by my niece.....not paid for but claimed as hers!! :noidea::)

Cuttings taken of all of them......

Fantastic succulents on display with some brand new introductions at Surreal Succulents

Worth a visit....tea rooms, fantastic gardens and a superb view over the bay and St. Michael's Mount :)

Any special tips to growing cante longk? Apparently it is just as hardy as most echeverias but it does look like those leaves need drier comditions...??

              Morning longk :)

              E. Cante, aeonium tabuliforme, Orostachys Chinese Hat, E. Zodiac, aeonium Phoenix Flame here. Another 3 taken by my niece incl a delightful "tree shaped" variety. "Orostachys"???

I am a little under educated about succulents so names do not flow off the tongue but another addiction has begun. At the nursery yesterday, I could have spent a fortune. Echeverias from black, to brown, to green, to grey to white and with coloured edges as if painted! I defy anyone not to be tempted.

I guess a covered area for winter is advisable longk? Not too cold here but damp ...rain, sea mists...is a threat???:noidea:

Not as tough as the Echeveria but they can get large so worth the effort..............

Not an Echiveria, but these things are endless that have similar growth habit.
Wonder what the flowers will be like.
                  Small I bet:snorky:

Almost an Echeveria (I think) - Pachyveria by the looks of it.

Anyway @pete - it's not often that I get to brag to you but I'm going to make the most of it now :snorky: Two new flower spikes emerging on E.cante :yahoo:

I dunno, I just liked the look of it, so bought it for a couple of quid.
Yeah well, I'm only growing them for the leaves.:rasp::snorky:

E.pulvinata can bloom at any time but they seem happiest over the winter. I divided mine up earlier this year for the village plant sale but what I kept of my plant (not much!) has just come into bloom.............
