Eric & Ernie were always great at causing Val & I many happy hours of laughter. Now on my own. Dave Allen and Victor Borge continue to entertain me. My dislikes are such. Jim Davidison, Bernard Manning and the like.

I have late at night watched on you tube. Various stars. So & So at the Apollo. The audiance is made up of entertainment people. Sorry but it really disgusts me to see all these otherwise venerated persons, rocking and busting a gut laughing at so much filth that comes from the mouths of the star performers.. What say you?

Talking to one of my friends on Saturday who was complaining that "new" comedians aren't funny .Well it's 2018 not the 1980's . I have watched live at the Apollo for years and never found the comedians to be foul mouthed or offensive , with a few exceptions . Have you been watching a Roy Chubby Brown show by mistake :snorky:

I'm going to shock you now, but apart from the silly comedy, which I've always liked, Morecombe and wise two ronnies etc.I tend to think you cant have a joke without offending someone these days.

"Comedy" has become so PC that it mostly involves using a swear word every two seconds , walking around the stage, quickly, and talking trash.
You cant take the Pi ss anymore, so it mostly aint funny.

I just wonder what they feed the audience on at places like "Dead at the Apollo", they appear to fall around laughing at the slightest thing.

Think the audience get in for free, like the old days, a bloke holds a card up telling them when to fall about laughing.
Either that or they are on something I've not found yet.:snorky:

I was never a real fan of Morcambe and Wise - probably because I didn't really gel with Ernie Wise. The Two Ronnies, on the other hand, loved them; in fact, I have very recently been revisiting some of their stuff on YouTube.

Dave Allen, another comedic genius in my book - brilliant mind, and sadly missed. I also always liked Les Dawson, as he could always bring a laugh without having to take things to the gutter.

However, of the foul mouthed lot, I must confess that I have a very special place in my heart for Billy Connolly - he has always had the ability to reduce me to tears of laughter, and in fact I watched an awful lot of his stuff on the laptop when I was in hospital (thank goodness I didn't have too many stitches in!)

@Mike Allen - have you heard of Still Game? It is a Scottish comedy series, mainly centred around two pensioners and the antics they get up to with their pals; it is without doubt one of the funniest things to come out of Scotland in many years (it came out about 15 years or so ago, though), and has a realistic sort of humour to it (the odd silly bit, but nothing over the top)

Watched a few episodes of this and agree it is very funny.

Tim Vine and Michael McIntyre are two that spring to my mind as being very funny without resorting to filth or swearing.

Most comedians are vulgar when live. The tv stuff is watered down. Even the great Bob Monkhouse made course remarks and used bad language in his live shows.

I loved Dave Allen. I still do. I quote him sometimes. "All dogs do all day is eat, sleep and fart." Sounds about right.

I like Michael McIntyre. I like his energy. I don't know how he does it.

Our radio is set to Absolute 80s. Saturday morning with Frank Skinner and Sunday morning with Jason Manford are worth listening to. I love Frank Skinner. Extremely intelligent and down to earth at the same time. Jason Manford recently stayed at the hotel where my wife works. He came down for breakfast. The celebrities that my wife has served breakfast to could be a thread in itself.

My wife is a fan of Sarah Millican. We have seen her twice. Although I find her personality engaging, I find her material a bit samey. She refers to it as mumsy porn. I think that sums it up quite well.

Tim Vine is another one I love. BNAG - That's BANG out of order. Another comedian I like to quote occasionally.

Which TV comedians are foul mouthed  Maybe a life time in engineering factories has desensitised me . I never even found Billy Conolly , bless him , the slightest bit offensive.
Morecambe and wise , The 2 Ronnies ,et al have had their time and comedy has moved on. Lots of very original comedians these days playing to sell out arenas. Music hall and "The Comedians" are really not going to come back .
And a top tip if you don't like Live at The Apollo , don't watch it .:snorky:

I once worked in a manufacturing company that employed practically 100% women on the shop floor and the language was the worst I ever heard. Plus you took your life in your hands walking through them.

Me neither and I never found him funny either - sorry!

Billy isn't offensive - not to me, anyway, however he does swear quite a lot and not everyone appreciates it.

I am not sure about Tim Vine - he went up in my estimation when I was seeing him on Taskmaster, but I can't say I find him all that funny. Mind you, he is much funnier than his brother, who I call Jeremy Whine.

I think we all have to accept that comedy has had to change, as there seems to be so many people just waiting to be offended by something or other nowadays. I must confess, I use words in jest to describe myself being disabled when talking to family and close friends, that I could not put in writing here lest someone be offended. Weird given that I am the one taking the pee out of myself, but hey-ho.
