Well really lucky here then. The signal is so poor the smart meters don’t work along our lane. I have never bothered but others have along here and the leccy people had to come and take them away again.. :noidea::biggrin:

Wondering why they are called "Smart" meters.
Doesn't sound very "Smart" to me.

But then that is the stupid word of the age, everything is "Smart" even stuff that barely works.
I'm sure we will look back and say, nothing was really that "Smart":snorky:

Nope not smart at all and the leccy companies have wasted hundreds of thousands on them and now the are starting to wind up with egg on their faces now and we, jo public, are no better off...

I think a lot of this smart technology starts off as a great idea, then fall flat on its face or is out dated..

I just chug along at my own pace using what I want or needand I am not going to use any more or any less leccy than I have for years any way, it hasn’t altered significantly for years..:heehee:

I've always struggled to work out how a Smart meter saves you money?

Well, it was never really designed to save the customer money:dunno:, pete, it was designed to give the Energy Companies more control and the ability to control and analyze data from the meters. The "savings" marketing strategy was to entice the public to get one.:snorky:

They are a way of shocking you into switching things off when you look at the smart reading on the monitor
No smart meter here as we switch things off when not in use :dbgrtmb: that must mean we'm smart as we don't waste leccy

Completely in this case. The ministers wanted it so rushed it through as I recall; at no point did anyone think that a consumer may swap suppliers so zero consideration was given to compatibility and all companies devised their own solution (this changed over time as realisation dawned). They continually fail to realise that each and every supplier and consumer form a system that to get an adequate (let alone good!) performance from requires a little bit of systems thinking.

I haven't yet looked into the rules on smart meters and wonder if any of you know. If I have to have my meter replaced, it's old and analogue, can I insist on a non-smart digital meter being installed? I don't even know if still have any. :noidea:

On a related matter:- Apparently, quite a few suppliers only offer their cheapest tariffs if you have a smart meter installed. They operate as a smart meter on a WAN system, similar to a mobile type signal. If you take out one of these cheaper tariffs and have the meter installed, is there a way to block the signal? Put foil, or similar, around it?

                              Maybe @Fat Controller knows :)

Foil will block signals but you will have to rap all the meter, but you also may be done for tampering with the machine but not sure

also you can get moblie phone blockers that block signal but that will also block your moblie and your neighbour and every one else near by :snorky:
