Today has got off to a bad start, the latch on my 15+year old Hoover washing machine broke. None of the usual websites have a spare door for the model. Yes it is an integral part of the door moulding. Also the timer is beginning to go. So am looking for a new one ASAP, thoughts please.

We had a Hoover washing machine for years, It was left in the house by the previous owner. We bought a Bosche to replace it and it's been great. It also has a 15 minute wash. We got it from John Lewis.

Hi @NigelJ we also have a Bosch and are happy with it. The current 'best buy' from Which? is the Bosch WAT2840SGB :blue thumb:

Thank you. I think that Bosch wins 3 nil. I was thinking along that line myself.

Bosch without question - if you can, try and go for the models a wee bit further up their range, as they are made in Germany still, and are built like brick outhouses; having said that, even the cheapest Bosch will knock spots off other makes in the same sort of price bracket.

Siemens are also good (essentially Bosch machines with a different badge), and Miele are also top notch in terms of reliability, albeit their designs are a bit staid.

Hoover seem to be coming back up, which is nice to see - that will of course be dependant on their product quality though, which slipped significantly for a while. DO NOT buy Hotpoint, Indesit or Creda (all the same company, all the same rubbish), and I personally wouldn't touch Beko with a barge pole.

Oh, a left field choice - Samsung. Their 'feature' where you can open a hatch and shove something in whilst the machine is washing is a bit of a gimmick, but they do machines without it, and to be fair to them their stuff is generally very good.

One of the Samsung range has the highest rating by 'Which?'.

Sadly @Marley Farley, Zanussi are a shadow of their former selves - they have been a part of the Electrolux group for a long time now, which in itself isn't a bad thing (Electrolux were a good brand at one time), but over the years they have cheapened their range considerably, and lost some of their legendary quality.

Early Zanussi products where incredibly robust - almost hewn out of granite - so hopefully they will return to prior form at some point.

We’ve had several makes over the years, including Bosch. We now have a Samsung, and to my mind the best of the lot.

I’m going to go against the grain. We had a Bosch WM and I didn’t like it. The clothes never really seemed to get that clean. It lasted only 10 years and I was not sorry to see it go. Now we have a Hoover and cleaner clothes.
