Interesting!

 

Today we did a bit of clearing - the stump grinder was a bit noisy, but much accomplished

 

Got the first batch of elephant garlic in. 50 fatties in containers that have had chick pellets added a couple of weeks ago.
A bit early yes, but im away for a few weeks so better early than late. Tried a smidge of myc0rrhizal fungi under each bulb this time.
See what happens.....

 

Hubbys got a hernia, but they won't operate because he's not in any pain.

@wiseowl that nandina won`t like our chalky soil - it `s an acid lover. I`d stick it in a pot with ericaceous compost if I were you

 

Cut lawns, potted on new plant arrivals and divided kniphofia Orange Vanilla, a delightful variety

It has been a glorious day today esp this afternoon when it felt hot . Early morning visibility for driving was difficult with the sun so low in the sky....a price to pay for summer at this time of year I guess

 

Is your soil in the neutral bracket then Shiney? Without always remembering plant names, very often I see something at a garden sale or gc, and get flashes back to the ''acid'' tunnel at work. There was only the one acid tunnel - as most of the shrubs we propagated were lime lovers

 

At some point recently a council worker took it upon himself to strim away my lamium. I wasn't amused when I found out. From a nothing plant last autumn it had far outperformed all expectations. In the spring I was planning to divide it and spread it out. I'm hoping there is enough of the plant left underground to start again.

On the plus side you could say it gave me the inspiration I needed to sort the border out properly. I had to trim the hedge first. This is usually done once a month by a chap in the village but I haven't seen him around for a while. I might look into buying my own hedge trimmer for next year.

I put in a plastic edge strip. Another day I will pick up some topsoil and fill that bit in. While I was there I planted out the fritillary bulbs I bought today.

My neighbours just happened to be out the front uncovering their curb stones. That's what I need to do I thought to myself. That has at least shown me the level I want to work at. Another day I will dig out the grass area and level it off to where I want it to go.

All in all I'm pleased with my days work. I've even managed to walk the dogs and cook the tea as well. Tomorrow we are going to a Christening in Norfolk so there won't be time for any gardening.

Well, back from the holiday (and it was gooood!), and the plants seem to have survived...

The chillies have produced really well, and I think the tomatoes were good (I will get a harvest update from my friend when we meet on Tuesday). The plants are all still alive, and the runner beans have finally started to produce, as the temperatures drop. Can't remember where I read that runners don't crop then the temp is over 25 degrees, but I certainly find it so...)

Here's the post-holiday haul - what are we going to do with all those chillies!!?!!

 

Busy elsewhere but went around the garden checking supports on tall perennials, closing gh windows and door, making sure nothing will blow around too much when the big storm catches us tomorrow afternoon. Following a summer of gentle breezes this will come as a shock!!

 

Slowly pulling up the pot marigolds so i can plant the wallflowers.
Still watering the polyanthus, it hasn't rained much.

 

Replaced a lavender bush with a new one.
