My yellow courgettes keep getting bigger, Notice the 10p piece below it, I normally take them off before this size but never seen it under the leaf

Ever find yourself with the remnants of a seed packet of peas and trusted it to the gods?

Well, this is what happened after the elephant garlic came out and the peas went in:

I am not exactly sure what variety they were but they tasted sweet and succulent.

Bought my autumn planting onion sets today, from a good old fashioned high street hardware/pet/toy/homebrew shop, select your own into brown paper bags, and there was a Cockatoo sitting on the till!

Best thing was that they were half the price Wilko charge.

My wretched Leeks are misbehaving. I planted them out at the same time as usual but many are in the process of going to flower:wallbanging:. Those are now in the freezer and will be made into soup. I usually have 1 or 2 that decide to flower now but not as many as I am getting which is about 30% and maybe more before winter sets in. I am wondering if this is because of the very good summer? tedious as they are my "stay in the ground over winter crop" and consequently not normally taking up freezer space which is bulging already before lots of my other veg has been harvested which does not over winter. Are others experiencing the same thing?

When leeks go to seed the flower stems normally extend as a tough central core all the way down to the root rendering them useless for eating.

                      Were yours OK?

My P/S Broc that were planted out this spring are ready for use now and looking like they will flower very soon; too hot perhaps? I've chopped them down to 3 foot and hoping they will regrow ready for next spring.

Both varieties of beetroot turned out quite well.

Hmm well they were a bit tough @Scrungee but ok for making soup if you cooked them for a good while. I pulled them before they had actually got to flower. Since my last post all the rest of my leeks are behaving and no signs of any others going to flower. I sincerely hope this remains the case.
