Yesterday turned out to be a lovely day and it looks as though we shall have another one today. The slight frost has gone and it's sunny and 38F.

Another freezing, frosty morning, so cold that Dog's bubble mixture wouldn't produce big, light bubbles for him to jump for.

:wow:, here's me in the "frozen north", @Zigs please note:), plus I live up in the hills (maybe the reason?) but not a sign of a frost yet:fingers crossed:. Lovely and sunny too through the day which generally can be a precursor for frost. I had better get my running shoes on and start to lift any veg that wouldn't take kindly to frost , altho the forecast is for it to be around 7 oc for the next week or so.

We are sill plagued with the high temps, 38c yesterday, low of 22c. Friends came over for a few hours but we stayed in the cool indoors. They are still acclimatising having been in Derby for a few months.

Hmm, spoke too soon. Maybe it didn't happen straight away or I didn't notice but a small triangular piece of my greenhouse glass has broken:mute:. Luckily because it is toughened glass it is still in situ and hopefully will remain so until the person who built her can pop round and replace the bit. I have also managed to break 1 of the automatic openers:wallbanging:. I carefully locked down the windows in preparation for the gales but forgot to disconnect the opening mechanism. Of course it then decided to be glorious hot sunshine and the windows tried to open. I was in the greenhouse casually stuffing my face with tomatoes when I noticed the windows at "interesting" angles. Much swearing and panic set in as I rushed to try and stop the windows from twisting. Sprayed cold water on the windows which did the trick and got them to close but 1 opener had already snapped, hey ho but not exactly the end of the world:).

I noticed car windscreens frozen lower down in the village, minimum was 4C in my garden being higher up in the North Downs. No damage so far. Fingers crossed it is supposed to be warming up the next few nights.

Currently down at 2°C but set to reach 18-20°C by lunchtime. This sort of temperature difference should give good autumn colour on many trees and shrubs.
