We've never bought new stuff, only period art deco furniture

Never bought a boiler, we only burn free pallets, logs, sticks, etc.

I'm sure one day it will dawn on this bunch that keep coming up with this kind of thing that the real problem is too many consumers.
Until they do these ideas will surface from time to time, but when you stop doing one thing something else becomes a problem, I'm sure at some point wind farms will become an evil that needs to be disposed of, once the world is full of them.

As to tax, well give governments the chance to raise tax money, and they will.
They just love this "green thing".

7.6 Billion people on earth right now. Increasing by 150,000 a day.

Banning the use of plant pots aint gonna make any difference. Its not a start, its a gimmick like most public relation gimmicks the public swallow enmasse.

Eg 10p plastic bags reducing plastic bag usage but still being used to pack your supermarket stuff into thats full of excessive packaging, needless plastics, and some plastics that still cant be recycled etc.

My local coffee chain still uses cups that cant be recycled and tens of millions of coffee pods are sent to land fill every year still.

Have to agree with you my friend. With due respects, a hell of a lot of folk also pop their clogs each day.
I don't know. Sometimes the workings of life can seem to be a dream. There is all this higher and super education etc. Wow! man can even go to the moon. However back here, on earth. Great minds are always at work, thinking up this and that, discovering new medicines and such like. Fantastic. So some time in the past, someone came up with the idea of a new thing, that would last for years and years, never wearing out.

So lets try and imagine the boardroom or whatever at the time.

" So my dear friend. Yes. That is a wonderful idea, and invention. Non destructable, lasts for ever!!!!!!!!!!. Tell me please. Once you have made this, er! plastic. Pray what next? If it has the everlasting qualities that you suggest. Then once made, surely that's the end to it.

More than likely some reply came forth. Make hay why the sun shines.
This sadly appears to be the punchline behind so many of todays problems. Inthe case of plastic, it has all gone t/boobs - up. Such casualness isn't good enough. I was once being treated by my then GP for duodenal ulcers. Medication was, Taggermet. The tablets ponged like methane and oops! burping or breakind wind you hoped nobody struck a match. Reading up on this medication, it stated that prolonged use of the drug could cause stomach cancer. Mentioning this to the GP. He simply said. Let's deal with the ulcers first and then we can sort out any side affects.

I agree that suppliers need to reduce the amount of plastic packaging but it will only happen with legislation.

Re 'bags for life':- I'm still using some of the original ones that I got almost 20 years ago without needing to swap them

I go in the supermarket, you have to buy a carrier bag if you want one.
I buy meat and fish, both are on a polystyrene tray covered in cling film, at the till the checkout lady put them in a plastic bags., Why???
I get home and immediately throw the plastic bags away, they are thin and not of any use to man or beast.

At least the carriers are reusable.

              You've nearly got it there!
Ok, I know that Belgium is slightly different. I buy as much veg as I can "loose", rather than pre-bagged. The bags are knotted before going to the till, in such a a way that I can unknot them when I get home. Veg removed, and the bags are folded, and put in my jeans pocket bag-holder. (I make patchwork cushions out of worn-out jeans, and the back pockets are kept as bag-holders). They are strong enough to be used once more, as a poop-bag. I can't understand people buying poop-bags!!

Sorry to divert, but that reminds me of many years ago I was out shopping with my neighbour, and good friend, and she went to the butchery counter in the supermarket we were in and asked for the various meats she wanted, and some bones for the dogs (she had six!) - - I couldn't help myself, and started tugging at her jacket sleeve, jumping up and down and shouting "Oh mum, are getting a dog!!"

Suffice to say, she went bright red - still got the bones though, and the wine was on me later that evening...... at least her hubby appreciated it when we told him the story :snorky:

Always used empty bread bags as poop bags, we have our shopping delivered bagless with tesco but all the frozen stuff comes in bags:scratch:

Since switching to Morrisons online, we do get charged per bag in each delivery, but then we hand them back and they refund for each bag returned. I must say, a couple of months in, and we are very happy with them.

They're ideal for me to pack the runner beans in for when I sell them. They take 1lb of beans perfectly. Mr Sainsbury gives me loads of them

That takes me back to the good old days! We used to get bones from the butcher to make 'bone soup'. It was really tasty when cooked for hours and then cooked again with veg (mainly root veg and onions) and barley added. A good winter broth. :dbgrtmb:
