I am far from sure...but I wonder if this isn't another Viburnum...a deciduous one.
Many do turn a super colour in the autumn.
Please post more pics when it has flowers.

This shrub looks like one of the Spiraeas to me. The speckling on the leaves before they turn to autumn colours would suggest ''vanhouttei pink ice'' or similar.

Agree with Silver Surfer, looks very much like Viburnum bodnantense to me. One of my favourite winter flowering shrubs.

yes, I think you may be right! Hurrah! Thanks so much @Trunky and @Silver surfer ! Again. Why are viburnums so diverse? I can never see what's common about them, apart from some of the more tree-like ones, I sometimes guess. It's a blind spot for me... Any tips on easy identification for them?

                Viburnum always have opposite leaves.
But leaves can be very different in size/shape/texture.
They can be evergreen or deciduous.

If that is Viburnum x bodnantense then it flowers on bare branches from now right through the winter.
If you add pics to this thread I can confirm for you.

Can I just add ...... Spiraea Vanhouttei Pink Ice have very different shaped leaves to that in your pic, so can be completely ruled out.

spiraea''vanhouttei pink ice'' leaves - Google Search:

Yes, I didn't think it was a Spiraea, thanks for the suggestion though @Tetters . I'll keep an eye on it and see how it changes. Thanks guys for all your help!
