I have to confess that I probably have my hair cut every 4 to 5 months, by which time it's overlong and feeling uncomfortable

I've been using a Barber in another town for decades and we have become friends over the years and he will nag me about not coming in sooner for a haircut, and refers to the amount of hair lying on the floor after my hair is cut as looking like a Badger.:heehee: Anyway, it was "that time" again and so I walked through the door of his shop and there he was as usual, thinking all was normal. I knew he was in need of a Liver transplant and had been for months but had not been placed on the list for receiving one. However, it appears that he was put on the receiving list on Monday, but was told that it could take up to two years waiting. But he got a call this morning at 1.45am from the Royal Infirmary in Manchester to say they had a Liver for him and would he please come in immediately. As he doesn't drive, hadn't even packed a bag for a hospital visit, and lives 35 miles away in Cheshire it posed him a bit of a problem:dunno::doh: The Hospital then realising his situation sent a Taxi to take him to Manchester and he was in Manchester by 2.40am!!! He was then subjected to being probed in all the places you don't want to be probed, have ECG's, scans, tests, etc, while being told the Liver was on it's way to the Hospital. Then at around 5am he's told the bad news that the Liver wasn't good enough for his transplant operation:doh: How he must have felt at that time I cannot imagine :dunno: But there I am standing in his Barbers Shop at 10.30am and there he is ready to cut my hair!!!:love30: :hate-shocked::gaah: I think I would have been crying in my Whiskey after going through that experience and disappointment, and I think he's a better man than me, Gunga din:snorky:

That must have been such a disappointment for him Armandii. Let's hope he doesn't have to wait too long for another one to become available, although that is at someone else's demise sadly.

It's good to hear the NHS helped with his transport.

That is what he said, Sheal, and that he felt guilty knowing the cost to another person and his/her family.

Some experience @ARMANDII , poor guy. I am all for it being made law that you should have to actively decline your organs being available for transplant rather than "voting in" which I have done. I think it's that way in Australia ie you need to say no rather than agree for your organs to be used post death? Let's face it we are all going to die sometime and anybody who doesn't face up to this fact needs their head examining!
I struggle to understand how people are averse to donating their organs to help others when they have croaked it. Hell most people are now cremated so why not give away any bits that are of use to someone else. I have signed all the forms to have my body left to medical science, why not? I have benefitted from medical advancements having had over 10 years pain free due to hip replacements. I think it's the least I can do. Here's hoping your barber gets a suitable liver soon.

It must be difficult not to feel guilty but his consolation is that someone wanted him to have their liver as a gift via donation.
