You wouldn't think that a silly piece of paper like that, that barely has even one 'fact', would cost nine million pounds, would you?

This was an analysis of it brought out by 'Full Fact' which is a fact checking charity.

    The government's EU leaflet: introduction

Having said that, there is praise for and criticism of 'Full Fact' on other issues - but no criticism on this.

I might well be responsible for the above:). Just thought if you were planning a booze cruise (not exactly a cruise!) through The Channel Tunnel perhaps be aware that the migrant crisis while not making headline news is very much still on the go. Daughter phoned me about a hour ago to say she had made it to her destination in Belgium (carrying a full artic load of seafood from Scotland) but it was touch and go to get to the fish markets on time as there was 1 hell of a delay in The Tunnel because a migrant/s had been found. Many lorry drivers were getting very angry about the delay as they were going to be late with deliveries and maybe have problems with their allowable driving hours. Virtually all the service stations heading towards and some on the other side of the road away from The Tunnel are shut as drivers don't dare stop in them so if you are thinking of travelling over be sure to have plenty of fuel as you are unlikely to be able to fill up close to The Tunnel. The Tunnel itself is as daughter described it "like Fort Knox" Perhaps all that has happened with "The Jungle" being destroyed near Calais, the mass numbers of migrants trying to enter Britain illegally have shifted over to The Tunnel. She is not looking forward to the return journey and Mother will be glad when she is safely back in Britain. Not funny for anybody who is trying to just do a job, having to run the gauntlet and get dogs abuse plus human excrement hurled at them in the process. I'm just thankful she is carrying frozen produce on the return journey. She is less likely to get her trailer broken into as it's around -20 oc, a tad cold perhaps to attract "passengers". I'm not sure if she will fancy doing this trip again and who could blame her?

@silu well done taking it off topic with just a hint of Brexit. :heehee:

Merkel didn't help the overall situation with migrants through Europe and she has paid the price politically. It opened it up to making it so much more difficult to tell the real refugees from the economic migrants. The poor refugees have suffered because of it.

You did manage to mention 'The Jungle' which was destroyed partly because of Brexit so have just stayed on topic. :blue thumb:

The Brexit 'Backstop' negotiations explained in a simple diagram :rolleyespink: But I don't think it's really that simple.

Oh you made me laugh @shiney, I knew I was somewhat going off topic but didn't really think my bit of information warranted a new thread and in any case it gave you an opportunity to be funny, not that you really need 1.:)
Thank you @Jiffy. Luckily daughter is pretty clued up on all the draconian rules and regs these days and with VOSA ready to pull trucks over regularly most transport companies at least try to keep within drivers hours when organising loads. She works most of the time for her boy friend who has 6 artics and so he wouldn't dare argue about her time keeping;). She has the new digital tacho. It was some of the other drivers who were having a hairy canary with the delays, perhaps concerned their load would be rejected if very late.
I am hoping this particular trip is a 1 off. It's bad enough worrying about her driving around the likes of the M25 but trying to keep the migrants at bay and avoid getting the lorry damaged in the process is worse.

Actually this has been going on for years, it's nothing new, the tunnel is worse than the ferries as far as I can make out and always has been, even to the point of some of them trying to walk through the tunnel.
If the channel was not there, or we belonged to the Schengen area, we would have sunk under the weight of this lot years ago.
                It needs to STOP.

It seems to me that everyone is focusing on trade - I suspect that many people didn't vote to leave solely on the basis of trade. Everyone knew that we wouldn't get the same tariffs - other factors outweighed this.

I see that jojo has resigned - seems to run in the family. :spinning:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, at least Tes is staying the course and not bottling out like Cammers.

Its all very well staying the course but coming up with a true definition of actually leaving seems to be getting further and further away.

I was looking at the ceremony at the cenotaph this morning on the TV?
I cant help thinking we have more friends around the world than we do actually have in Europe.
I know it's not a fair reflection on the modern state of things, nor on us leaving the EU as such.
But it does make you think.;)

The French bloke is cosying up to Trump, now I can see why, but have we got all our eggs in one basket?
                    I wonder.

But that was her job - to replace the gormless idiot and deliver Brexit. I doubt she thought it would be this adversarial but all I can see is that she has no support anywhere and has her head in the sand.

I still cannot see how to avoid a hard border within Ireland

So all Tes has to do is get the 27 other EU countries and Parliament to agree - I can't see what the problem is.:dunno:

Yep, but that's the last date the EU is saying it will agree to holding a Special November EU Summit Meeting. It's not the final date for agreeing a deal.:dunno::coffee:
