I spent the day keeping the Landscapers supplied with Tea and Coffee during what has been an appalling day of cold rain, gusty cold winds, and a maximum temperature of 38f. I would have preferred that they came for at least a break out of the cold and rain but the guys kept working on and, to me, they deserved more than a mug of hot tea/coffee, they deserved a medal.:love30::snorky:

            Aloha everyone,

It's a busy day today. Having to take Mrs Shiney, very early, to hospital for a nerve blocker injection under CT scan (extremely painful trapped nerve) and I have an appointment at the surgery for results of my blood test (NHS well man screening). I don't know when I will have to pick her up - just wait for the phone call but it won't be until later today.

Keep well and have a great day

            Aloha!

Morning wise owl & Aloha Shiny.

Good luck to Mr & Mrs Shiny at the hospital, I know how nerve racking it can be.

Wiseowl, it’s gone a lot warmer where you are, it’s still cold here, you have a nice day :)

                          Good Morning all.
A very mild but wet and windy day in store for us today.

Spending the morning with my Dad who has become very nervous due to nuisance phone calls/ potential scammers One lot yesterday said that they will be round today after he gave them his post code ( told him not too give any info out all all, many times !!!). I don't think they will turn up but we wants someone there, my brother is doing the pm shift!!. On Monday he had a call about his internet and was asked to press numbers on his phone, thankfully he didn't.

These people make my blood boil, preying on old people. I tell him to be careful and that he must never give out ANY info and to just put the phone down on them. These people are sooooo very clever and know how to turn on the charm and get people to talk!!!!!

Have a good day, you'll need your wellies!!:dbgrtmb:

We bought a phone that stops most of that happening. They're not expensive and contain a computer chip in them that intercepts all calls. It's fairly simple but requires him to have caller display. If he has anyone's number in the phone's memory/directory it will allow those calls through without intercepting them (you would probably need to put them in for him) and will display their name on the screen.

If it doesn't have them in the directory it intercepts, without letting the phone ring and asks the caller for their name and then, assuming they have given it, tells them to press the hash key. It will then let the phone ring, tell them they have a call from (and plays him the recording of the name given) and then asks him if he wants to take the call. It tells him to press 1 if he wants the call, 2 if he wants it to go to the inbuilt answerphone, 3 if he wants to ignore it (it will tell the caller he's not available), 4 if he wants to ban the number. Those options may not necessarily be in that order - depends on the model of the phone.

There is no charge for this service but there may be a charge for caller display (if he's with BT and you pay the bill one year in advance you get 10% discount and caller display free).

I've had the BT8500 for some years and it's good. It may have been superseded. I've quickly grabbed this off the net

BT Advanced Phone - One Handset (090638) | BT Shop

If he tends to get confused it can still work OK if you make sure you put in all his contact numbers for him, into the directory, as those calls will come through as normal. Any that come through and are announced you could tell him to press the button that sends them to answerphone. Then he doesn't need to talk to them but can listen to the message after it has been left. He can then decide whether he wants to call them, or not. If he's not sure then he waits for one of you to come round and listen to it. If it's a number you want in the directory you can then put it in for him (it gives you the option).

I'm happy to answer any other questions. :blue thumb:
