This farce has many twists and turns still to come.

MERKEL stood down as Cdu head today and carries on as Chancellor, well thats her plan maybe her electorate will change this.

Macron is toast. Paris is getting ready for riots this weekend and theres a high chance he will be kicked out as a no confidence vote in him is close.

Italy wants to put through a budget that the europrats are trying to block. Italy will utimately cause the deck of cards to fall.

And Farage has quit the Ukip party. I can see him setting up a new party of some sort.

Plenty fun and games and riots ahead yet.......

He has always struck me as a right plonker Rodney - demonstrations still going ahead apparently - even though the gov't has done a u turn on fuel tax.

Crystal ball time - Italy, one of the founding members of the EU will leave - due to the EU interfering in their budget setting process.

Do you think any country will try to leave after what has happened with us, bearing in mind we are not strangled by the euro, but they are?

I tend to think the EU is going to have to change and the Franco/German stranglehold will have to change.
Also the rise of the right wing?
Who knows where that will lead.
Only got them selves to blame, the EU that is, when the shi*t hits the fan.

Thing is @pete - if the UK get to the point where they tell the EU to poke it where the sun doesn't shine, and refuses to give them another bean, and then Italy follow suit, Poland would likely join in as they are less than happy from the accounts I am hearing, and the French are as fed up with the EU as they are with old Macron, as it is the EU that was trying to impose the tax.

Merkel can see the writing on the wall, I think, and wants to get herself out of it before the shhhhh.... brown stuff really hits the fan.

For the record, it is not the citizens of the EU (or anywhere else in the world for that matter) that I have an issue with - it is the way that we are being treated, and the stupid laws/fines that are being imposed upon us.

The monkeys have been running the zoo for far too long now, and there needs to be a significant change for voters - not just here in the UK either.

Yeah, but I don't think other countries will follow our route, I don't think they can being tied to the euro, I tend to think it will be disruption from within.
And unless they change, far from stopping war in Europe I think they are likely to cause it.

which is another reason why I would prefer to be outside of it all, when it happens.

Sorry, it was just the wording rather than the sentiment I was stuck with.

As you might have gathered from some of my previous contributions to this debate, I'm someone who often - at times reluctantly - defends MP's and the political profession generally, as I regard their job as one of the utmost difficulty - however well remunerated - and one with which few armchair critics would have the nerve, nouse or stamina to do. What I'm seeing a lot of on social media at the moment is people accusing MP's who vote one way or another on this issue of either cowardice or betrayal. I must be incredibly naive, but I thought it was fairly obvious before the Ref that MP's would have to vote through any decision to implement the result, and its therefore not surprising that many are struggling with their consciences. "Represent the people," they are told - but if most of your constituents voted to Remain, what are you to do? They are the people who elected you.

Actually, there is a lot more MP's accusing each other of either cowardice or betrayal which is much more pertinent, than Social Media which is full of paranoia, bias, etc.........hang on a minute, that sounds like Parliament at the moment:dunno::heehee:

Don't get me wrong - with few exceptions, I feel our current crop of politicians is just about the least inspiring or trustworthy I can remember.

                        [QUOTE[/QUOTE]

I haven't retained any aspects of your post because my reply is to all rather than a section - suffice to say I understand what you are saying about people's reactions, and my wording was not particularly well put together. I wasn't suggesting we should amend the results of elections due to people being offended. But from a Consequentialist perspective, I think we ignore widespread social disaffection at our peril: just as I believe the complaints and grievances of Leavers should, for the most part, be constructively addressed, I also feel it is potentially suicidal to ignore the social division and despair that has followed the result. The economic impact of Brexit will be twisted and interpreted through the prism of statistics, depending on which side each person takes, but there are qualitative as well as quantitative consequences to be taken into account, and we are fools to ourselves if we think we can ignore these.

I agree with much of this. A reformed EU with UK still as a member?

Do you mean Leavers or Remainers, Simon. The Leavers just want to leave but are being angered by the results of the Referendum being questioned by the very people they voted in to take decisions that people asked them to.:dunno:

I think you have to admit that is fanciful thinking, Simon. The EU itself is at odds with long standing members such as Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain and others, while Right Wing extremists are getting seats in various European Parliaments. The EU is a monster of Bureaucracy, committees, councils, that getting it to change, even if it wanted to (and I've seen no sign of that), would take several decades as it is not a democratic organisation but a unelected political organisation with an open agenda of morphing members countries into a Federation where individual sovereigntie's, abilities to decide what is good for their people would disapear.
