    No, Simon, it is not. Financial decisions taken by the EU in meetings where the UK is not permitted to vote has repercussions on our trading and financial

    Which means you have not realised that the UK is one of the biggest participators in the Euro zone as we trade, import, export, have huge financial arrangements and services using the Euro within the EU but have no say. The EU chooses where and when the UK can take part in EU financial decisions although, as I pointed out earlier, we are one of the largest financial contributors and trading countries within the EU.

    I must say that I've almost given up the will to live with all this! :doh: I've tried ploughing through the discussion but have decided it's just batting the same things backwards and forwards but just using different terminology each time. They're still opposing views put differently. It's the sort of discussion I think would go better over a pint. :) :runforhills:

      Well, I think the Italians, Greeks, Spanish and Portugese might disagree with you as the first two countries were told of the financial penalties should they have a referendum. It's all on record
      and it's there for you to follow and see.

      I've already pointed that out, longk.:snorky:

      I don't think you will find a MP, of any political colour, who would not choke on their drink or place their hand on their heart and agree with that view..........well, not without trying not to smile.
      All political organisations have declared polices and rules for their members etc but history has shown they use those rules in their own interests. As I said, in reality, members who want to leave the EU and invoke Article 50 will find that the EU will use every financial, political pressure and any other means to "persuade" those members not to...............hence the present situation.

          Because it would have meant putting my cross next to any one of several charlatans, several of whom were tainted with racism. I would have felt far worse to have knowingly endorsed someone for a position of authority whom I felt was inappropriate. People fought for the right to vote, not for the compulsion, and I find your dodging the bullet analogy weak and unfortunate. I didn't "dodge" anything, but engaged in extensive email discussion and came to the conclusion that my vote was too important to waste. I take my democratic responsibilities extremely seriously and always assume when voting that mine will be the vote that swings it.

            For clarification;
            The Eurozone (as I've used the word and as the word is bandied about in the media) is the colloquial form of the Euro Area (its official title). It defines the block of countries who use the Euro as their official currency. It does not define the EU area in its entirety.

            Nope, the only official body that the UK does not participate in is is in the monetary policy of the Eurozone/Euro Area. That is it.

            Anyway, as an aside, who knew that the City of London is the largest clearing post for Euro denominated securities? On a good day trading can top 750 billion euros! It accounts for over 40% of the trades in these securities. This is one of the reasons that the financial services passport is vital to this country (the financial services sector is the top tax payer in the UK at over 10% of total tax take).

                  To be fair no-one has to read it ... I do think it is important and valuable for such forums to exist. I would never have imagined that I would find a forum on a gardening website which provided a platform for discussing this issue with the degree of civility and respect I have encountered - most places online its just slanging matches and capital letters. So I for one am hugely grateful for it! I suspect the issue will be debated forever, as a matter of this importance and complexity should.

                        Looks like an expensive round to me if you're buying, Shiney.

                        Well, that's because this is a naturally friendly Forum where people really do respect each other and adhere the Rules and Protocols within even thinking of them. GC Admin try to keep a low profile, post in threads, however controversial, as members, and only step in on the rare occasion when things get a little heated. But the real reason for GC being as great as it is, is the actual members themselves.:love30::thumbsup::snorky:

                          I agree :blue thumb:, but I'm fortunate to be involved in a lot of organisations/groups that have these discussions and are able to discuss them in congenial surroundings even though I don't imbibe. :)
