    Jacob Rees-Mogg:

    Referendum - +4% in favour of leave - wants a hard Brexit - fair enough;
    PM Vote - +70% in favour of Tes - he says she should resign as 30% of tories are against her - not fair enough;

    Smacks of double standards to me......:scratch:

        Sadly, I reckon it would be a three way choice - Stay, Leave with Deal, Leave with no deal, with the one with the biggest majority winning; that way, no matter if both of the leave options combined added up to 60% of the vote (let's say that Leave with Deal got 25% and Leave with no deal got 35%) and Stay was 40%, Stay would win because it is the largest of them all. They are not so stupid when it comes to getting their own way.

            Oh don't depart @Freddy you often give me a smile and a chuckle. I too was upset today about something else on GC but then thought "who's the moron him or me"? Glad to say it's him as unlike the Brexit forum debate there was a definite right answer (RHS agrees) which was MINE!:). You have lots of "friends" on GC.
            I am so very very sick and tired of people verbally at least fighting with each other. Since about 2010 there never seems to have been a month when there wasn't uproar and bitter political rivalry. We up here in Scotland have had a double doze of divisive referendums/referenda...god that will now cause another heated debate as to which is correct....sigh and by the looks of things even after the dust has settled with Brexit we will have ANOTHER gut wrench/family separating referendum to look forward to.

              Blame the Man in the Boat, Ted Heath:dunno:

              [IMG]

              That wasn't what I said:dunno::heehee: What my point was that there is no other agreement that could be reached to getting rid of the backstop where the EU and Ireland would accept cessation of the Backstop while still keeping a soft border, all of which means that we would be "negotiating" in circles for decades trying to keep a soft border without the EU's backstop.:wallbanging::snorky:

                  Personally, I've said it before I know, but anyone in their own rights cannot expect to leave the EU and not expect a border.:scratch: On that I agree with the EU.
                  Its what happens, so.....if N.I think they can leave the EU and not accept a border......, I dont know what to say.:scratch:
                  My reasons for leaving are, I actually want a border between me and the EU, we have one,and always have, it's just a fair bit too leaky for my likings.

                    It's not just Northern Ireland, pete, but Ireland itself which does not want to accept a hard border.:dunno::wallbanging::snorky:

                    I remember Ted Heath as the worst prime minister of my lifetime.
                    Three day week, miners strike etc.

                    He was a total disaster.

                    Ireland doesn't have a say, its up to them if they build the border.
                    We leave, they build a border if their Masters the EU tell them to.
                    If they want to do a Trump and build a wall its up to them.

                    Actually it is exactly what you did say....................

                    However, what you were trying to say actually makes sense now.
                    I must admit that I do not understand this paranoia over this. Let us cut the crap here - Europe wants shot of us (unless we do an about turn). The markets want it. All this uncertainty is bad for both sides and for the wider global economy as well. No one is trying to trap us. Sorry if this doesn't tally in with peoples idea of the EU being the big bad wolf.

                      Actually, they do, pete, as they are one of the 27 members of the EU who voted for and backed the Backstop.

                      There will be no building of a border, but the suggestion is to have 6 border control checks on the border, The fact that the border is 331 miles long and that there over 200 roads crossing it from Ireland to Northern Ireland seems to make even more nonsense of such a border.

                      You've seem, pete, to have a conflicting view of the EU than longk does, after all each member of the EU says it doesn't bow the knee to the EU unelected bureaucrats.:heehee:

                        I just tend to think there are borders far longer than a miserly 331 miles, even in the EU than that.

                          I agree, pete, that there are other "borders":dunno:. I think the fact that, when we joined the EU, we kept the Sterling as our national currency, (Thank the Lord:love30:}, created an instant, unsaid, "border" between the EU and the UK that kept us out of being fully accepted even though they liked us being the 3rd biggest contributor of finances to the EU.:coffee::snorky:
