West Cheshire uses a Grey Bin for non-recyclable, a Green Bin for "green" waste, a Red Box for plastics/metal/paper, a Green Box for glass and paper, a brown box with handle for waste food. Only glass, plastic and metal gets recycled as everything compostable goes in the Compost Bin, and I eat all the food so no waste there:dunno::heehee:

Our collection is Monday, including bank holidays, also this year. Christmas eve.
The only exception are if Christmas day, Boxing day or New Year's day, fall on a Monday. In which case the collection is on the following working day.

That's normally how ours work but the union are in a long-running dispute with the Council.

Our council was in dispute with the union at one time so they ended up subbing out the collections. That was a few years ago and the system has worked well ever since. They've very occasionally missed a bin and if I spot it that morning I phone the council and they make the lorry come back for it. That hasn't happened for about 18 months and I think the bin men have learned not to miss any even if they're in a hurry.

Hi, This is the latest price list for bins etc from Thanet District Council:
          Black 180ltr refuse container

          £38.00

          Black seagull proof bag

          £10.00

          Brown food caddy

          £9.00

          Silver kitchen caddy

          £8.00

          Red paper and card bag

          £8.00

Red 240Ltr Paper and Card container

          £48.00

          Blue Mixed Recycling container (box)

          £9.50

          Blue 240Ltr Mixed Recycling container

          £48.00

So if the bin men don't return a certain item it will cost money. When my Brown Bin was not returned I phone the Council, who promised to send another one, still waiting after months & months...........More chance of Nelson getting his eye back me thinks:wallbanging:

When one of our bins was emptied and returned broken I phoned the council and they delivered a new one the next day :blue thumb:

We get four bins at the moment, recycle, incinerator, food waste, and garden waste.
I pay an extra £40 a year for the garden waste bin, that gets suspended over the Christmas period.
The local kids seem to think its funny to move all the bins around on their way home from school, so finding your bin in a strange place is pretty normal.
I've had the food bin broken twice now, but the council has replaced it free of charge, although the council website does give prices for replacements, I'm guessing they only apply to habitual offenders.

Why is it trendy to dislike brussel sprouts?, personally I've always thought they were the best winter greens there is.
You can poke cabbage and all the others, brussels are the best IMO.

It appears we have to slice them?
And stir fry them now, in order to make them edible.:roflol:

I agree Pete, they seem to be the only green vegetable that have any flavour now. Why ruin them by frying, yuck! I don't know if it's fashionable but Mr S has never been able to stand them, even the smell. :)

It's not about being trendy. Some people have a gene that means they taste bitter far more than other people. So those who don't have the gene like sprouts. Those of us who do regard them as the Devil's testicles.

                          Change of topic.

I was in Sainsbury's on Saturday, when in the checkout queue I was surrounded by people texting on their phones.
We could solve the NHS financial crisis with a "text tax."
10p a text would bring in millions, even with a subsequent big drop in texting trivia..
