I was wondering if anyone has any Vallota (Scarborough Lily) bulbettes they would like to part with.

I sadly lost my large clump which I had for more years than I can remember (possibly cats digging them up) and I cannot find them on line. If no one has any, maybe someone can direct me to a website selling them.

    Thank you in advance.

Thank you, @longk. I did not know of the reclassification but I remember seeing the name Cyrtanthus so I will search again. One thing, I will not pay £25 postage! :yikes:

Thank you for the link @ricky101. I had seen this but poo-pooed it as they did not list EU and UK postage seemed bad enough as it is. Also they are potted plants not bulbs. In the meantime I have found someone in America who will send me 3 one year old bulblets (3/8" dia) detached from their 'mother' in August for £18 incl p&p, which I am happy with.

I'm surprised no one grows them in Portugal @Victoria, seems like a long winded way of getting hold of a plant.

Haven't seen them here Pete. :frown: Actually, there was an article about them in The Portugal Resident (a Brit magazine here) some time ago talking about bulbs and says ...

        "Cyrtanthus elatus, Scarborough lily

This unusual coral-red flower is another of those frustrating cases that you see around the place in people’s gardens, but never for sale. Glowing flowers appear in late summer and autumn and are excellent subjects for pots or borders."

... only found this today looking up Cyrtanthus elatus.

Out of curiosity, what size are your offsets? I have read they can bloom at 3cm.

My bulbettes arrived today. They are small but there was four, one real tiddly one, and three plastic label sticks. So, we'll see how they go! ... or that should be grow! :fingers crossed:

In my experience they grow fast.
Almost hardy here (cold greenhouse over the winter) so over there they should romp away.

@longk, do you plant them in the soil/compost with the tip just poking out?

:yahoo: All four bulbettes have sprouted, the biggest shoot being about ,5cm tall. That's just 23 days. Will take photo when they are big enough to be seen on camera.
