What are you going to be doing this weekend?

My Monday to Fridays tend to be same old same old for a couple of reasons. Our electricity pricing is a lot less expensive on the weekends and holidays and also, my kids work 9-5 M-F so that is also when family socializing is busiest. Weekends are just so frenzied or different from weekdays that I thought I'd ask if it is the same for most here.

We've gor a snowstorm blowing through tomorrow so my plan is to stay inside for the morning and catch up on laundry (low leccy rates), start my tuberous seeds , bring up a card table or two to put my 1020 trays, vacuum (low leccy rate and I have a central vac system) , and dust everywhere. Having the central heating on puffs my old person dust all over so the tables (antiques that belonged to Mum) and everything else that gets close to my micrifiber cloth.

Then Sunday, I've got my gal pals coming for a pot luck lunch/afternoon. If they aren't snowed in

And after they're gone, I've downloaded some new books to my kindle

And then it's back to another "manic monday" la la la, wish it were Sunday, la la la...

Oh, and as I say these are plans... some may be added to a to do list...

I'm hoping...... really hoping to clear some space for my ' little greenhouse '.
Its always needed moving, it was a freebee, 20 years ago, and it deserves more than pots and spiders
My 'big greenhouse ' earns it keep, but I want to use the little fella this year.

Forgot that the kids and grandkids might be around. One of the 11 year olds has the book and birthday money from "Gramz" ready for her. Best get it wrapped ,,, book is is titled The Confidence Code for girls. Hopemshe likes it

 

Eek Lori youve reminded me i need to get my niece her bday present...she will be 12 next week. Sure your granddaughter will love a book with that title

Thanks @Loki ive done the family tree on my grandmas side for a present 2 birthdays ago. She always wanted it doing. My goodness it is addictive! I know that side of my family inside out.

My heart has been broken knowing some of the stories-particularly my gt gt uncle sammy who died in 1st ww. Gosh I think of him everyday. I have a photo of him on a shelf in my kitchen and always remember what he gave up for us. He was only 27 when he died. But I am so pleased I know his story and visited where he was killed and said my goodbyes to him.

I picked that book because I had self esteem issues as a tween and want to help the little ones to avoid unnecessary hurt and give them coping skills. . These days peer pressure even for that age group is ballistic! Did I mention that I have 9 grandchildren?

My father was a WWII sparks on a Lancaster. My Mother took him out to the woods to see the bluebells when he was stationed outside Darlington...she became a war bride... Just see how big a part plants play in our lives ...

Ah so your dad came over during the war. Funny-my grandad was an engineer on Lancasters but he was based near Nottingham. I think he built parts for them-so wasnt actually in the RAF but he worked on the planes.

 

Nothing exciting as such, we're out this morning to buy a new mattress. We now know we get the keys for the bungalow on the 31st Jan, and we've decided a new mattress to start off on the right footing.

Cleaning the tunnel and planting peas ( early onwards)
Sweet peas are being planted in modules. And I'm taking hard wood cuttings from shrubs .

 

Actually I have to confess I'm looking for something to do, (no I'm not volunteering). I've been banned from getting on the rockery today, as it's too wet so a bit of a tidy up on there will have to wait.
But I will tidy the shed and the garage, which will only take minutes.

But I've a little project. My replacement leccy golf trolley I've had a couple of months, is getting on my nerves as the stop-start and speed control is far too sensitive.
It has a centre push button for on/off, but then an outer yellow ring that rocks for on/off and turns to adjust the speed. However you just have to brush against it or let your jacket touch it as you lean over to remove a club...and it's off!
So I'm going to make semi-circular guard out of a plastic waste-pipe bracket to attach across the front of the handle to prevent that happening.




I've just ordered some Winter mitts which Velcro to the handles, so you just push your hands in when you're ready to move off and out again when you are ready to play your ball, you don't even need to to take off your golf glove. Some friends use these squeezable handwarmers. But that's just more stuff to put in your pockets.

As we are prepared to play in freezing weather as long as it is dry, I don't consider going to such lengths unreasonable. We'll play for three and half to four hours in weather when some wouldn't want to even leave the house.

The downside is that I can never say it's too wet or cold to go out to get the shopping!

Note, my "typo" quota has reduced as I've had the keyboard on my laptop replaced.

 

@Warwick lad , I need to get rid of an old mattress which is now in the garage. If you haven't bought yours yet, just pop over to Newcastle and you can get mine for free. I hope you don't mind dampness, mould, spiders and potential mouse nibblings. Perfect!

 

You're in the same situation as we were last week. We swopped our eight year-old memory-foam mattress for a new Dormeo one. I had to fold the old one in half tie it with some cable and take it down the tip. It wouldn't have been lonely, there were plenty of other sad ones down there. though ours was still immaculate.
