Exactly that, so saying that they have "an agreement" is utter tosh!

It is simply an agreement of terms for the transition period which is what the UK requested.

I have to disagree here. The British approach to negotiating has been we want the benefits without any of the cost. It is the British who have been intransigent and in the first place stalled any discussions on the way forward until we were ready.

Of course they will not but in the event of a no deal it may no longer be viable. Are we incapable of making bottles? No, but do we a] have the spare capacity , b] will we able to do it as cost effectively, c] have the necessary skills and d] have investors prepared to invest from scratch?

Nope. We lose tariff free access to export markets that account for 44% of our exports (the whole of Europe). For Germany (for example) it will mean that they lose tariff free access to a far smaller percentage of their exports (the UK) whilst retaining tariff free access to the rest of Europe.
Think of these things logically and it is easy to spot the brexiteers lies.

Can I be your right hand man! We've got one of them in this town and she keeps trying to force leaflets on people.

OK, so currently some 44% of our exports are to Europe, but how much of the world is made up of Europe? Germany is about the only country that has benefited from being in the EU in financial terms, and ironically there is almost as much political unrest there as there is here.

And as you say our negotiators have gone in wanting all of the benefits for none of the costs, £39bn is surely paying quite a bit toward costs? Let's not forget that we have been a net contributor to the EU for the entire time we have been in it - and that is the problem with the EU. You pay in £1000 and they will give you £350 back, but to get that £350 back you have to give them another £250 in fees and you have to agree what you spend your £350 on, and you also have to tell everyone that the EU has given you the money and let you spend it.

As for being my right hand man when it comes to vegans - let's do cyclists as well, and we have got a deal

I'm not joining in the for or against debate on here but just some info on glass manufacturing. @Jiffy brought it up as the United Glass factory - I know it well. It originated as Key Glass over half a century ago and developed from there.

It is now called O-I UK and, since the referendum has spent £25m on modernising and development and are concerned but not too bothered about the future (I was at a meeting with one of their people the other week :noidea:).

They have two sites, one in Harlow and one in Alloa and they supply bottles to the Scotch industry up there. They moved to Harlow, jointly with Gilbeys (eventually became International Distillers and Vintners - Diageo, Watneys etc.) , and supply the bottles for a large part of the UK booze industry.

I know they used to make smaller jars as I used to buy jars from them for making hair creams.

We still should be able to get jars from Poland (unless there's one big ball's up from goverment) but they may cost more, take longer to get through custom's and a few more bits of paper to fill out or they don't want to trade with us :heehee:

So basically, there might be a shortage for a while, while things and people get used to ordering, with that in mind.
Much the same as companies who order stuff from countries outside the EU do at the moment, and have done all along.

In the warehouse where i used to work it was always full, old stock goes out new stock back in
Some days we would load out and deliver 50 loads a day and 50 loads would come back in so i was always working hard
Shortage, no unless there's a big stop on

By big stop on, I guess you mean the 30 mile jam of lorries trying to get out of Dover we are being warned about, but there will probably be a 30 mile jam the other side wanting to get here.

Oh no, I forgot,:yikes: they wont want to be selling us anything anymore.

@pete I honestly believe that a lot of these shortages began way back when some idiot came out with the JIT method of inventory control. Total garbage in many industries!
